#OwnTracks Recorder does an excellent job of reverse geocode caching.
I'm limited to 2500 requests per day with #OpenCage free plan while importing my records from #GeoJSON files exported by #Dawarich. Yesterday I imported 2355 location records and got 446 reverse geocoding requests. So today I imported 4382 records. Too bad I can't see OpenCage requests count in real-time. Will see the result tomorrow.

By the way, my importer's MVP source code is available: git.nicelycomposed.codes/yehor

After some tests I have my location reporting from #HomeAssistant to #OwnTracks Recorder via HTTP requests!
OwnTracks Frontend is also up and running.

Now to the migration from #Dawarich. I can just write a script to read GeoJSONs exported from Dawarich and put points to Recorder one by one, but there is a limit on reverse geocoding from the #OpenCage free plan - 2500 requests per day. And that's not all.

From the OpenCage website:
"Free trial accounts have a hard limit of 2,500 requests per day for testing purposes... We offer a free TRIAL, not a free tier. If you are regularly depending on our service, you are not testing. ". Sounds threatening, but at the same time there are no sanctions described for "regular use, not testing". And nothing about the differences between testing and regular use. Maybe OpenCage is not a perfect solution for #homelab.

I'm presenting rankquest.jillesvangurp.com at tomorrow's Search Technology meetup in Berlin (meetup.com/berlin-search-techn)

Some new features that I added over the weekend:

- AI query generation (using openai or compatible service). This is useful for quickly generating some test cases.

- demo configurations for #opencage and #tmdb (bring your own API keys). I'll be demoing these.

Looking forward to meeting people at the meetup tomorrow.

One thing missing from my #Pixelfed uploader (for my #Photini metadata editing program) is a way to set the location. Photini allows users to set latitude+longitude for each photo (by dragging it on to a map) but there's no obvious way to convert that to a Pixelfed location. (Pixelfed uses a data base of towns with >5000 inhabitants.)

I currently use #OpenCage to convert latitude+longitude to an IPTC location (a hierarchical address). They can also do various location ids, but not Pixelfed's.

@ianturton @opencage @cartocalypse actually, there is already an interface for geocoding apis in the #QGIS core. The current implementations are #OSM and #GoogleMaps, but what do you think about adding one for #OpenCage ? @qgis github.com/qgis/QGIS/tree/mast

@opencage #qgis already supports OSM and Google. It is about time, it supports #opencage , as well! ๐Ÿ‘#geocoding #api #gis

#MappingChallenge (Day 52/100)

Updated my OSM Wiki page and worked on a purposeful for #OpenCage.

Just did one simple change and add some landuse.
