PCIe Gen 6 *always* uses 'flit mode' meaning it always transfers packets with a fixed payload size unlike earlier versions of the PCIe spec which allow for variable length packets.

The reason this is necessary is the protocol requires forward error correction due to its high bit error rate and FEC can only be implemented with a know fixed packet size.

There's a lot of nuance I still need to learn.

I finally finished my TV build: I added an RTX 2080 to a MINISFORUM AI X1-255 over OCuLink. I expected it to perform much worse on just 4 PCIe lanes, but it’s doing surprisingly well. I’d say the setup is ready for couch gaming now.
The only downside: the GPU fans spin at 100% when the PC is turned off.
Now I have a beefy 8 core CPU, 64 gigs of ram, 16 of which are allocated to iGPU, and an 8gb gaming card with 20gb of shared memory in one package. Blessed to have gotten most of the hardware before prices spiked.

@heiseonline versteh ich auch nicht ganz, als Laie im #LLM Bereich. Aber braucht es da nicht eher etwas, das viel parallel machen kann, z.B. eine #GPU? Ist der GPU Teil im #Broadcom Chip wirklich dafür geeignet? Oder nehmen Leute dann eher einen Pi 5 und binden da eine GPU per #PCIe an?
