I just found out an old friend of mine is being held at Navos Behavioral Health.

They are trying to declare them permanently gravely disabled which allows them to be involuntarily committed. The hearing is Tuesday.

Hoping that a lawyer can help. It's possible a phone call from the right person will end this.

All the (second-hand) context I have currently is that they had a manic episode and crashed their car, realized they were having an episode, checked themselves into Harborview, got into some sort of a scuff with an orderly, who had them transferred to Navos to be committed.

Anyone with practical experience in this area? Anyone who can help? I don't know what to do, but I do know this person isn't a threat to anyone, and they certainly don't deserve being involuntarily committed.

* Last week, Prime Minister #MarkCarney revealed Lena Metledge Diab will serve as Canada’s new Immigration Minister.

The first thing Diab should do as Minister is bring #ClimateActivist Zain Haq back to Canada by greenlighting his Temporary Residence Permit that has been processing since January.

Zain was deported to Pakistan in January for climate activism that resulted in low-level mischief charges. He’d been living in Canada his entire adult life, and with his Canadian wife, Sophia Papp, since 2023.

Sophia has been given the devastating choice to remain in Canada without her spouse or relocate to #Pakistan , where she doesn’t speak the language and faces significant barriers to her health and wellbeing.

A mere 48 hours before Zain was deported, he and Sophia’s Spousal Sponsorship application was rejected by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) without substantive explanation.

The couple’s lawyer, Randall Cohn, has stated that this eleventh-hour rejection is likely illegal. It also denied Zain and Sophia’s right to procedural fairness, since they didn’t have time to access the appeal process enshrined in the #BillOfRights.

Zain and Sophia’s situation is reminiscent of the #unethical treatment of many #migrants in the U.S.

#IRCC ’s last minute rejection of a young couple’s Sponsorship Application without substantive reason should raise alarm bells for anyone of conscience, but especially for those with a #legal background – and before getting into #politics , Minister Diab was a #lawyer in Halifax. I'm trying my hardest not to use any AI, because I don't believe there's an ethical way to use it considering the amount of damage and harm it creates.

One thing I'm noticing lately is AI popping up in things that I use without the option to opt out*.

Can people please leave comments about where they've noticed AI happening, so that I can also be aware of those things.. like it took me a minute to realise that Co-pilot was actually AI and not just a fancy form of spellcheck, I've just heard about Duolingo and Audible, and the Ask Tiktok search thing is also AI.

What else do I need to be aware of?
