I missed the pebble round the first time but this

Has me seriously wanting one. Looks so nice.
Got a very exciting email last night asking me to choose the color of my Pebble Time 2! :abunhdhappyhop:

The guy who made the #SmartWatch a thing and was ripped off by #Apple as a result is designing a piece of jewelry. While I don't usually announce something someone would sell, The #Privacy implications are interesting.

@ericmigi.com That comment captures my internal narrative. It's a very compelling gadget, I love every aspect of your design story, and I'm very tempted to impulse pre-order. But I'm reluctant knowing that there's no way to prolong its lifespan (I've replaced my #PebbleWatch batteries, but that feels like a nonstarter in a sealed ring) -- and if I do get one and get hooked on it, when it inevitably dies in two years, and there are no replacements (if the product is orphaned -- most startups fail, few ppl have the ericmigi connections needed to spin up a replacement #gadget), I will sorely miss it -- and that anticipatory loss hits even harder than the general "ick" of adding to the e-waste stream.
And yet, everything you said in your intro video resonated with me: I had the same experience trying to use Snowy and gave up because it was unreliable and needed too many hands. Reducing brain friction/overhead is such a blessing. So I'm on the fence.
Question: If I got TWO of them, and one sits on a shelf unused until the first one dies, will the second one's battery life be "like new" until purposefully activated? Or are they basically on & draining from the time they're shipped?
(I've read mixed reports on the stability of silver-oxide batteries. Maxell says its battery capacity deteriorates about 2% per year (pretty good), but older articles imply that anode corrosion occurs in alkaline batteries whether they're used or not. Which supplier are you using for AgO batteries in the Index 01?)
Time and date. I’m really loving my P2D. #pebblewatch
Endlich kam die lang erwartete Mail zur Bestätigung der Lieferadresse meiner neuen #pebblewatch an. Kindliche Vorfreude kommt auf 🥳
Another Wear OS Smartwatch Maker Appears to Have Given Up
> It’s now much harder to buy a Mobvoi TicWatch and it's only committing to "essential" software support.
Well glad I bought the #pebblewatch just waiting for my order to come early next year. Just enough time for the ticwatch to survive a little longer 🤔
Exciting times! I got an email from Core Devices asking me to confirm my shipping address and choose the colour (red/black, of course) that I want for the Pebble Time 2 that I pre-ordered.
Now just have to wait, very impatiently, at least 6 or more weeks for delivery. :-(

Collabora Launches Desktop Office Suite for Linux:

(Yeah now we have Microsoft Office on Linux lol (kinda, if we consider the design of the UI, it looks almost a one-to-one copy of it))
Odysee got "shorts" feature, similar to YouTube:
(no article about it)
(Oh yeah, the brainrot arrived to Odysee too... lol)
(But I guess it makes sense, since most creators sync their YouTube channel, Shorts also get synced, it's a more pleasant experience on the Odysee side.)

Oh my! It's alive! My old friend, @rebble
@jik I'm so glad my fears about the direction Eric M. was taking RePebble were just that, fears, and he totally put them to rest today:

His Tick Talk video made me grin ear to ear. Can't wait for my PT2 to arrive.
🕰️ Wow, the Pebble Watch software has finally transitioned from 95% to 100% open source. It's like watching paint dry, but with extra code! 🎨 The revolutionary idea here is #decentralization, because apparently, that’s something people still pretend to be excited about in 2023. 🙄

Watch: P2D
Firmware: normal_asterix_v4.9.81
Today, my watch didn't let me enter the menu anymore. It reacted to calls and the start of the charging process. But it wouldn't go back to the home screen. I've powercycled it twice but that doesn't resolve the issue. It's connected to my phone, showing the pebble OS logo.
Any ideas how to resolve this?
🥴 Ah yes, Pebble watches—a relic of the past stubbornly clinging to their #Kickstarter glory days. 🎉 Eric Migicovsky is back with an epic saga of Pebble #drama, as if anyone asked for another episode of tech soap opera. 🙄 Spoiler alert: It's still not 2009, and nobody cares about your link exchange program. 👏

Response from the Pebble side:
https://ericmigi.com/blog/pebble-rebble-and-a-path-forward
I'm not sure where to land on this. I think the core measure long-term will be how much of the ecosystem that Pebble keeps open source. The more that this gets structured in a way that makes it harder for them to close parts of the ecosystem in the future, the easier it will be to trust them.
