Winding down my #Fusarium #SpatialImmunity Project, which I started 5 years ago in ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ. ๐Ÿ˜ฅ In ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ I created >850 plant lines for the project (which FedEx lost, recovered, 2xflew back-n-forth ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ/๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ช), in my 2 years @mpipz.bsky.social I added another 500 lines. Mostly fluorescent markers for #PlantImmunity.

Roughly 500 small paper bags containing individual transgenic Arabidopsis thaliana lines, placed on a laboratory bench. They are partially stacked, but cover the entire surface of the bench.19 Laboratory Freezer Boxes neatly stacked on top of each other on the same bench. They contain almost 1400 tubes with the seeds of individual transgenic Arabidopsis thaliana lines.

The two #systemin #peptide #receptors in tomatoes have opposite functions. While SYR1 activates systemin-induced #immune responses, SYR2 acts as an antagonist. Wounding preferentially induces the expression of SYR2 that attenuates immune responses by outcompeting SYR1 for binding with the co-receptor SERK3a

How minimalist plant immune molecules become activated

A groundbreaking study reveals how phase separation, akin to oil and water mixing, drives the activation of plant immune proteins, shedding light on their vital role in defending against infections. The findings uncover a fundamental mechanism for bolstering plant immunity, with implications for understanding broader immune system dynamics across species.

Image: Substrate-induced droplet formation of a plant TIR domain in vitro. The Arabidopsis TIR domain protein RPP1 was fused with the fluorescent protein GFP so that the rapid droplet formation of the RPP1-GFP fusion protein can be visualized by fluorescence microscopy after addition of the substrates NAD+ or ATP in a test tube. The droplets are highly dynamic structures. Credit: Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research, Kรถln

According to a recent study by Hirofumi Nakagami at the Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research, pattern-triggered immunity (PTI) played a crucial role in the adaptation of plants to land. PTI is present in all vascular plants, including crops, and could aid in the development of more resistant plant species. #PlantImmunity #CropResilience #MaxPlanckInstitute

Hey there!
I am a plant scientist interested in working at at Tรผbingen university. I used to study plant before.
Hopefully this is growing bigger.
Cheers!
