On a recent private photo tour, while hoping to see black bears catch salmon, we heard screeching calls in the forest. 😬 Not sure what it was, we cautiously approached the area. It was two red-tailed hawks (Buteo jamaicensis).

Hiked the Lake Cheakamus Trail today with its amazing reflective turquoise waters. I'm sure millions of people have taken a picture at this exact place at the end of the trail, but retirement hiking lets me go on a weekday in the off-season, and I did not see a single other person until 7 miles into a 10 mile hike (also, I started early when it was chilly, foggy, and dark, which probably helped)

In just over five weeks on Dec. 6, 2025, the 1 Line will add 7.8 miles and three new stations with the opening of the Federal Way Link Extension. The extension includes stations at Kent Des Moines, Star Lake and Federal Way Downtown.

Leading up to opening day, the final phase of testing called simulated service has started, where light rail vehicles run a normal schedule without passengers between Angle Lake and Federal Way Downtown stations. During this time, passengers will need to board and exit at Angle Lake Station.
