Queensland University of Technology physicist and air quality expert Lidia Morawska has won the $250,000 Prime Minister's Prize for Science.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Professor Morawska spearheaded efforts to convince health authorities worldwide to recognise airborne transmission of the virus and change infection control practices to combat it.
The inaugural Prime Minister's Prize for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Knowledge Systems was awarded to Michael Wear, who founded Australia's first Indigenous-owned and -led sea cucumber fishery and marine restoration enterprise.
