Decline in semicolon usage, and thank goodness, not least because people generally don't know how to use them correctly.
I try to get my non-native English-speaking colleagues to cut down on their use and to please do not use them in bullet lists.
"Too academic for our purposes!" I say.
Although a careful, considered semicolon, a literary semicolon, I can get behind.

Beyond the bare reading of the text, two things pop out at me: the use of the Oxford comma n the first sentence, and the deluge of semi-colons following. Thank you to editor Julie Stillman for letting them stand.
It's actually pretty rare for google's AI-based spell/punctuation check to be wrong. Huh.
Maybe someone at google is trying to change this weird, inconsistent rule in English punctuation.

I have had people go frothing at the mouth when I point out that a lot of #punctuation is "#silence #notation."
A #comma is a point of silence, it is shorter than the point of silence of a #period. #Ellipsis (...) is a fade to silence. #Emdash/dash is an abrupt silence. #Parenthesis invokes a point of silence before and after an aside, much the same length as a comma.
People forget that the written word is made to represent the spoken word, that includes silence and change of pitch.

This is good, as long as the sentences aren’t stilted (or paragraphs are just single sentences):

(இதோ இந்த முற்றுப்புள்ளி வேறொரு விஷயம் சொல்லப்படப் போகிறது என்று உணர்த்துகிறது), (இந்த அடைப்புக் குறிகள் தமக்கு உள்ளே உள்ள விஷயத்தை முந்தைய வாக்கியத்துக்கும் அடுத்த வாக்கியத்துக்கும் தொடர்பு ஏற்படுத்தாமல் தமக்குள் மட்டும் பொதித்து வைத்துக் கொள்கின்றன). இப்படி ஒவ்வொன்றுக்கும் ஒவ்வொரு வேலை.
Em dash — எதுவுமாக இல்லாதது, எல்லாமாக இருக்கக்கூடியது — எந்த நிறுத்தற்குறியின் வேலையையும் அது செய்யும் — பிரம்மத்தின் குறி என்றுகூட இதைச் சொல்லலாம் — அதுவும் இன்னதென்று சொல்ல முடியாதபடி இருந்தபோதிலும் எல்லாமாக இருக்கிறது, இல்லையா?
பிரம்மம்தான் அப்படியென்றால் உள்ளூர எங்கும் பொருந்த முடியாதபோதும் எல்லாருக்கும் எல்லாமாக இருப்பவர்கள் நம்மில் நிறைய பேர், நண்பரும் தன்னை அப்படி உணர்கிறார் என்று நினைக்கிறேன். ஆனால் இதையெல்லாம் புதுக் கம்பெனியில் வேலைக்குச் சேர்ந்த முதல் நாளே சொல்லுவது ஆபத்தான காரியம். அதனால்தான் எப்படி வேண்டுமானாலும் அர்த்தம் பண்ணிக் கொள்ளுங்கள் என்று புரியாத புதிர் போட்டுவிட்டார் நண்பர் என்று நினைக்கிறேன்.
Whoever said that em dashes are a form of #punctuation that gives AI away doesn't know that they are a form of plainly and simply good (and not only academic, of course) #writing. Where else does anyone think AI got those from?
The marketing team at my company puts periods at the end of everything—titles, section headings, any group of words even if it isn’t a sentence. I suppose it is some kind of branding or trend thing but it drives me bonkers.
