Today I received a new #RAKwireless toy based on #STM32 RAK3272-SiP breakout board.
Works like a charm on #meshcore

There is only the chip on the board (no regulator) but you can directly use a usb-serial converter to power it up and communicate with it ;)

Wow, it seems like I just had a #RAKWireless current sensor go bad after about a month of use.

It was impeding current flow (thus stopping the battery from being charged) and when I swapped it out for a replacement, the replacement worked just fine.

I ordered a #meshtastic device from #RAKwireless, and have zero idea when it's going to show up. Shopify wants me to install an app to see tracking, and it's through a courier in any case. No idea how tariffs are going to impact the purchase, either.

Anyone have advice?

My original plan was to use the RAK11300 RP2040 + SX1262 LoRa module to transmit air temp/hum/qual. data via LoRa.

... which works... but the RP2040 does not meet my power consumption targets. I knew it was not the most energy efficient uC, but hoped the RP2040 ecosystem would balance out the power insufficiencies...

In the end I decided to switch to another uC.

RAKWireless also offers the STM32WLE5 as a WisBlock module, so that's what I will try next. [1]

For proper debugging a STLink Debugger has been purchased recently ;-) Waiting for the module to arrive, though βŒ›.

RAK3172T in Arduino
As the RAK11300 did not really match my requirements (it uses way too much energy), I looked further and found the RAK3172 which is based on an STM32WLE5CCU6 - an STM32 chip which usually include good powersaving modes. As with the RAK11300, I did not want to go down the Wisblock way and designed my own breakout board:

Ordered some LoRa stuff this morning. Can't wait to try RAK Wireless's 11300 LoRa module with integrated RP2040 ARM microcontroller!

Added some NVRAM storage for LoRa state persistency, a temperature / humidity sensor and an E-ink display.

I'm planning to build a prototype for my own room climate sensor. If it all works out well, I will create my own circuit board and 3D printed case for that sensor.

oh man, what a fun few hours! lol

I tried setting up my Meshtastic kit and had nothing but problems, lol

the short version is, the OLED faces the other way, over the switch on the 19001 board, in order to work

if you don't get this working, you'll frequently encounter, "Timed out waiting for connection completion" when connecting to it via USB

1) Cut the cables & swap the poles of my batteries & then adapt chargers' polarity round? Is that a fire risk if someone then puts in a normal polarity battery?
2) Soldering out socket & turning it round?
3) An adapter to be had?

RAK11300 Teardown
About a year ago I got some RAK11300 modules - which are a nice combination of an RP2040 alongside a SX1262 radio on one module - designed a breakout board - tested it - and quickly shelved it. Reason was that this module was somewhat Arduino compliant - as stated - however only with RAKwireless Arduino mbedOS Repo. Alongside of it being a bit.
