The prototype of my #SmartMeter reader that sends data via #LoRa is up and running. — but it stops updating after a few seconds. Only fix so far: reconnect the IR-Reader from 5V pin. Problem also appears after #ESP32 wakes from deep sleep. Next: stabilize firmware ( #ESPHome ) and 3D‑print a case.

Eventually found a good final position for my node after a lot of trial and error. I found out that I have to be a little bit outside of my balcony. Either because of the metal fences or because it sticks out more from under the roof. All in all, next node reachable with 3.5 dB SNR. Love it 📻

I love these RAK WisBlock modules: they are basically Lego for electronics and DIY tinkering.

I have just upgraded my Meshtastic Solar Node (RAK19003, RAK4631) with an environmental sensor (RAK1906) and a GPS module (RAK12500). Everything fired up on the first try, I love it !

Next step: upgrading the antenna to a 6.5 dBi.

I would love to hear more about use cases like this, if there are any. I am legitimately curious if this has proven useful after disasters, yet, in a way that preexisting comms infrastructure wasn't able to.
