fed.brid.gy/r/https://36kr.jp/

Lots of stuff in the latest @rpimag my bits are an article on getting started adding hardware to the as well as the first of two parts tinkering on a larger underwater vehicle! As an unexpected bonus the mighty Rob Miles has written an article about writing @FreeCAD macros with . As a shameless act of self preservation.. do consider a subscription (excellent Xmas gift) as it helps keep us writers employed!

Just submitted part one of two of a larger budget underwater rover build to @rpimag Seems a good time to also say that issue 157 with the TOUV palm sized project is now available as a free download! magazine.raspberrypi.com/issue

But an #ROV at 6000 meters below the ocean surface is far from a typical LAN application. (d a m)

Violent testing of a thruster for the larger underwater project... deffo some speed control needed, possibly redesign the prop with a lower pitch!

Been designing a few more parts for the larger underwater today. Also took this picture showing the small rov I made (in this months @rpimag ) in comparison to the new larger one! Happy weekend everyone!

The super small, almost palm sized TOUV underwater ROV sat next to a chassis for a much larger underwater project! The larger chassis is made from a collection of PVC pipes and has some orange, designed in FreeCAD, mount parts attached.

So I'm working on a larger underwater project. This morning a little job was to design a clamp to clamp some larger floatation tube sections to the smaller tubular chassis sections. Perfect little job for and .

A larger white pipe is clamped to a smaller dark grey pipe with an orange 3d printed clamp section.

Just blogged about this fabulous controller system that @steamengineers built in response to my little Tiny Opensource Underwater Vehicle (TOUV) project. It's amazing when people get excited about stuff you make, and then respond by making something excellent that makes the whole project better! The little palm sized TOUV submarine is featured in this months @rpimag issue ICYMI.

The fantastic controller from Steam Engineers, the LCD display has a gui showing the thruster power levels and other small animated features. The controller has 2 large 3D printed joystick covers. A photo of the TOUV article in this months RPI magazine.

This I wanted to show off this assembly I made. It's a underwater chassis. The Seaperch design is regularly used in education/academic underwater challenges and I wanted to be able to model custom bits to the (made from PVC) tube frame. I only had to model 3 parts (including a parametric tube) so I could then use the newer Assembly workbench to put this all together.

Screenshot of some assembly instructions for a Seaperch utility main frame. The complete frame assembly in FreeCAD.

Ah, sadness: the one time I actually need it (surveying boat keels for an upcoming co-op purchase), my chasing dory underwater drone seems to have fully died. I plugged it in to charge and it does not accept the charge - seems to be fully dead. I got a few good uses out of it, but alas, I don't know if I can repair it.
