The image displays an old sepia-toned photograph depicting a coastal scene, likely from the late 19th to early 20th century. It shows Redcar Pier in Yorkshire, England during this period. The pier is seen extending into calm waters under a hazy sky with clouds suggesting it might be midday or afternoon due to brightness and lack of long shadows.

There are several structures on the right side of the image; two prominent domed-roof pavilions stand out, likely serving as refreshment kiosks. Between these buildings is a lamppost-like structure holding what appears to be an ornate light fixture. In front of these structures, there's a group of people seated at benches and on chairs under open umbrellas or canopies for shade.

The foreground features a paved sidewalk leading towards the pier where more individuals are seen strolling along it. The sand is visible alongside this path with gentle waves lapping against what could be the edge of an extension to the beach area not shown in full view due to perspective. A wooden railing separates the promenade from the sea.

The bottom left corner includes text stating "103-85 REDCAR, THE PIER," which likely refers to a cataloging or reference number for this specific image within a collection. The overall atmosphere of the photograph conveys leisure and relaxation typical of seaside resorts during that era in Britain.

The image depicts a bustling street scene in an urban setting during what appears to be the late 19th or early 20th century. The photograph is sepia-toned, which suggests it could have been taken with photographic processes from that era.

In the foreground, there are several individuals walking along the pavement and others seated on benches, engaged in various activities such as conversing, reading newspapers, or simply resting. Many of these figures wear long coats indicative of a cooler climate typical for much of England during this period.

The street is lined with buildings displaying architectural styles characteristic of that time—stately rows of terraced houses with multiple stories and large windows, suggesting residential use. The structures exhibit varying facades in colors such as beige, brown, and muted reds or greens, common to the era's construction materials like brick and stucco.

In the middle ground, a group of people is gathered near what appears to be an entrance gate with railings leading into another part of this area. Their attire suggests they might be travelers or workers heading towards their destinations within the town. The street itself has minimal vehicular traffic but does accommodate horses as evidenced by at least one horse-drawn carriage.

The background showcases more architectural diversity, including a red-brick building and other structures with different designs that create an at [...]

The image depicts a coastal scene with numerous boats lined up along the shore. These wooden vessels appear to be fishing or rowboats, and some are equipped with masts suggesting they could also function as sailing crafts when conditions permit. The beach is sandy and there's evidence of recent use; footprints and tire tracks crisscross the sand, indicating human activity.

In the background, a series of quaint buildings form what seems to be an esplanade or seaside promenade typical for towns in England during that era. These structures vary from simple cottages with gabled roofs to more substantial brick buildings, possibly serving as shops or residences. A row of lampposts runs along part of the path, providing light.

The sea extends into the distance where a bridge can be faintly discerned connecting two parts of land over water. The sky is clear and bright, suggesting good weather conditions during the time this photograph was taken.

Notable features include the vintage aesthetic suggested by the image's quality and coloration—hints of sepia tones that are characteristic of early photographs developed with photochrome or a similar process in the late 19th century to early 20th century. The absence of modern elements, like cars or contemporary clothing styles on any visible figures, supports this dating framework.

The photograph is credited as being from Redcar's esplanade in Yorkshire, England and was captured by [...]

After a week of heavy snow, we never expected to be doing a #parkrun this morning, but here we are. We continued our tour of the local runs at #Redcar, a flat, three lap course with superior signage game!

Great course, not too cold and the rain held off. I finished with a baffling PB of 28:29, over a minute and half better than my previous PB! Must have been that last minute banana I scoffed!

A photograph of the runners at the start of Redcar parkrun.

I recognized the poem on that mural and wanted to share it with everyone.

Everyone Will Write Poetry
by Branko Miljković

A dream is an old and forgotten truth
that no one knows how to verify anymore.
Now exile sings like the sea, and anxiety—
the East lies west of the West, false motion is the fastest.
Now wisdom sings, and the birds of my neglected illnesses,
a flower between ash and fragrance,
those who refuse to survive love,
and lovers who turn time backwards,
a garden whose scents the earth does not recognize,
and an earth that remains loyal to death—
because this world is not the sun’s only concern.

But one day,
where the heart once stood, the sun will stand,
and there will be no words in human speech
that the poem will renounce.

Everyone will write poetry,
truth will be present in all words.
In the places where the poem is most beautiful,
he who first began to sing will withdraw,
giving the poem to others.

I accept the great idea of future poetics:
an unhappy man cannot be a poet.

I take upon myself the judgment of the singing crowd:
Who cannot listen to the poem will listen to the storm

but:

Will freedom know how to sing
as the slaves sang about her?

A vertical, full-color, eye-level shot captures a bright red vintage Volkswagen Beetle parked on a city street. The car occupies the bottom half of the frame, angled slightly toward the viewer. In the background, a large building wall is visible, featuring a mural of a figure with yellow hair and blue cloth, alongside text. Below the mural, a window with metal bars and two air conditioning units are mounted on the wall. A man in a dark jacket walks away from the camera on the left side of the street. The car's license plate, partially visible, reads "BG 578-ŠJ." The lighting is bright and even.

Spent some time in #Torrance today. This bridge is a local landmark--#PacificElectric / #RedCar lines used to go both over and under it. The tracks underneath are still active, the ones on top are no longer connected to anything.
Also hit an antique shop where I picked up some #78rpm records for $1 each.

#redcar
