A huge thanks to @BridgetAlmas for the deep dive on @Lyrasis.

It was great to explore the many ways that the Lyrasis Organizational Home supports the sustainability of #ResearchInfrastructure and how it aligns with the mission of #academicOSPOs. We look forward to more discussions in the future!

The next ARDC Community Data Lab co-design session will be focused on building tools for HASS research using 'Public Interest Documents' โ€“ this includes things like Hansard and other government documents. It's run next week on 25 Feb. I think it's important to get more historians involved, so sign up now to help shape the project. eventbrite.com/e/ardc-communit #researchInfrastructure #histodons #ozHist @histodons

Last week's grant freeze fiasco underscores the need for diversified revenue and community-owned solutions.

Our latest blog post examines the $16.5M+ in federal grants awarded to open infrastructure projects over the past 5 years, highlighting the precariousness of the space right now.

"'If the current situation exposes risks of depending on federal funding for research and research infrastructure, it also underscores the importance of community ownership of the tools and data that drive knowledge creation.' Read our blog post 'Call to action: Protect vulnerable infrastructure and research independence'." Community ownership is highlighted.

The ARDC is holding an event on 18 February to begin planning the next phase of the Community Data Lab (CDL): ardc.edu.au/project/ardc-commu If you're interested in developing digital tools and resources for HASS research you should go along!

I worked on phase 1 of the CDL and thought I'd put together some rough ideas on what the CDL might be and do: updates.timsherratt.org/2025/0 #GLAM #digitalHumanities #researchInfrastructure

Recently there were some invite-only discussions about National Digital Research Infrastructure, including one on #HASS & #GLAM. The questions and summary from the HASS/GLAM discussions are here: education.gov.au/national-rese (h/t @Infoventurer)

Most of it's pretty obvious, but I'm encouraged by the concluding para: "Overall, rather than a single, all encompassing facility, the focus should be on developing an interconnected ecology of systems and tools, with emphasis on collaboration, accessibility, and adaptability to various research needs." So glad we're finally moving away from the idea of a single platform...

Lars Bernard (@nfdi4earth, , and more) kicks off a series of brief talks, setting the stage for a World Cafรฉ๐Ÿ’ฌ on the potential interaction between and @NFDI. Exciting discussions ahead on , , , , , , and the joint future of and !

@NFDI Oliver Kohlbacher from Elixir/GHGA makes the point that we have to think about research infrastructures not just in terms of how they complement each other as the ideal, but also consider the risks that come with interdependencies (loosely paraphrased).

A presentation slide with the title "Challenges for Research Infrastructures", with two halfs of the slide each featuring a photo and one sentence: On the left, a photo of a minimalistic puzzle with one fitting puzzle piece missing and lying on top of the other pieces, with the sentence "Research infrastructures have to dovetail and complement each other". On the right, a photo of black and white domino stones falling, with the sentence "Closer interaction also implies strong interdependencies - sustainability critical!". In the corner of the slide, the text logo of NFDI.

Time for the plenary kick-off of the #EOSC symposium 2024 in Berlin. I'm joining the other 463 on-site participants, over 900 people tuning in online. Happy to be here and looking forward to the many interesting sessions on #OpenScience, #ResearchInfrastructure, and other things related to #ResearchData. If you're here as well, say hello!
