I've been playing a lot of romhacks lately but its so hard to scrap for their metadata I've had to add it manually. Since I do most computing on my phone now, it made sense to build a #Retropie gamelist editor. Still a WIP, but the foundation is there!

Made some long overdue improvements and adjustments to the video game cabinet I built 10 years ago.

- swapped out stale #retropie for #batocera
- add bezels to Atari 2600 ROM set
- added Vectrex ROM set, never could get it to work on Retropie. Love the vector graphics!

Next up is to address the monitor and bezel. Originally had a 20” 4:3 monitor that died and replaced with a wide screen so bezel doesn’t fit properly.

Restored the "arcade cabinet" at work back into working order. The cabinet itself was built by students at least 15 years ago and was upgraded to a RetroPie about 7 years ago, but refused to launch any games as of late.

On my x86-based emulation box most (if not all) emulators are compiled from source from their main branches.

Part of me says that I should leave it alone in the absence of any visible issues. Yet, I update roughly every week and sometimes things break. 💥

But that's fun too. Before posting an issue, I usually do (at least) a "git bisect" to try and identify the offending commit, and often end up learning something new from it.

It's also a game.

The level of warnings for installing Home Assistant Supervised is astronomical! Red "Caution!" header, threats of dependencies and assumptions of ubuntu.
The hardest part is really to figure out why the instructions for the OS-Agent package and Home Assistant Supervised package are separated. (I still don't know why)

Against all odds, it seems we pulled it off again! Continuing with Retropie manual installation!

One important detail that affects some games of this era is that they expect joysticks with only 4 directions. They can't handle diagonals. 🕹️ 4️⃣

For arcade cabinets with 8-way joysticks, the solution is to use a 4-way restrictor plate, that physically prevents more than one switch from being activated at a time.

Under emulation, 4-way restriction can be done in software.

Pengo isn't very playable under lr-fbneo due to this, but OK under lr-mame2003-plus.

Anyone that could push me in the right direction with a small "just for fun" project?

- According to the docs (https://retropie.org.uk/docs/First-Installation/) not everything is installed. Is there any information, which emulators are coming with the default image? Or the other way around: how do I know, which Emulators are installed so that I can either add additional ones or know which ROMs I could play out of the box?

- Roms... On Reddit there is a "megathread 4.0" which links to github. Github links to Myrient and the Internet Archive. I'm not sure.... everyone is talking about copyright: Are the Roms on Internet Archive or Myrient legal or not?

I got a "new" mini pc waiting for me at the post office today. I initially bought it to host Home Assistant, but after some consideration I'll might throw RetroPie on top of that as well. The ultimate smart home game console powered by Debian 😂 no clue if that poor minipc can run all that at once, but it will be a fun project. Any other that has tried this or have a similar exciting setups at home?

This year I want to immerse myself into #retrogaming . My old #RaspberryPi 3 can't wait for getting the #retropie treatment again.
How will it show on 75 inch screen, that will be interesting to see.

I am trying to get OMF2097 to run on RetroPie with two no-name PS3 gamepads... The gamepads work fine in Emulation Station. They do things in DOSBox-pure. However both are mapped to the SAME keys. DB-Pure even has OMF2097 mappings, one using WASD and the other numpad. However it seems both controllers are treated as WASD. What am I doing wrong?

A fun soldering project I'm working on with my kid, a DIY game controller. It'll be equivalent to an #SNES controller. It's not exactly an original idea because I'm copying somebody on YouTube. But that poster did not share the crucial detail of a schematic, so I had to reverse engineer how to wire it. Also varying from the original by using a miniature surface-mount joystick on the left side instead of just buttons (serving the function of a DPad).
Should work well for #RetroPie emulation.
