What in the revisionist history?
If we're doing the "generation" thing, I'm an "elder" millennial and knew Gen-X well in their prime. What values? We're talking about a generation that loved Howard Stern *before* he got therapy and lapped up Jerry Springer.
Good old fashioned values are a daydream no matter what the era or age. I challenge you to pick up a Victorian era Sears catalog (tail end of it anyway, 1897 or so) and flip through it. There are plenty of replicas available.
People have kind of always been as they are to some extent. It's just that we now have more people and different technology available to express ourselves.
The truth? Some people are honest, faithful, hardworking, and kind most of the time. Some people are blackhearted weasels. Most people are varying degrees of the two depending on the moment you catch them in.
