#Editing

As a book editor, I'm happy with a behind-the-scenes role. It's nice when I'm listed in the acknowledgments—that makes me feel extra appreciated. But it's okay if I'm not mentioned.

This time, I'm listed as an editor on Amazon! 🤯😁

It was a delight to work with Daryl on "Coming Clean." The book itself left me feeling inspired, and I think it will do the same for readers. I'll post about it again after its Jan. 18 release date. In the meantime, it's available for preorder!

Partial screenshot of the Amazon entry for "Coming Clean: Between the Veils (Dark Water Fountain Book 2)." The byline reads, "by Daryl Fontana (Author), Asya Blue (Illustrator), Alexis Miller (Editor), and 1 more."

The screenshot also shows the book's cover, featuring an image of Earth with something like veils around it, almost like Earth is wearing a shawl around its shoulders and holding that shawl closed at its chest.

A landscape showing the play of light on white rapids with a large predominantly white bird (heron?) standing in the still water at the bottom of the painting. The rapids are moving through rocks on one side and grassy banks on the other. The water and the top part of the bird are in bright light while the rest of the painting are in shadows. The colours are subdued but very beautiful. Image by Bryan Hook (1856-1925) from Wikimedia Commons.

Dec 11: How do you keep track of plots and subplots?

I don’t always use this option, but one way is to make an outline after you finish the story (or, I suppose, before, if you’re that organized) and highlight where secondary characters and subplots show up.

Two pages of paper have two pages of paper have short paragraphs of text with space in between. A few words or phrases are highlighted in yellow or blue.

Grammarly knows I use American English... yet they think my American spelling is incorrect.

One more reason not to rely on software to fix your spelling.

Ah well. It's not as though I've ever trusted Grammarly's suggestions. I use their browser extension to flag potential issues in my emails and posts... and then I ignore their suggestions half the time. It's a functional system.

I know this is a long shot, but I'm looking for a new #editing client ASAP.

Looking mainly for Fantasy, SciFi, Horror, or Poetry, but I'm willing to branch out for the right manuscript. No Erotica, though, please.

Let me know if you're interested in discussing further!

quick #PhotoEditing question: I have some pics involving a bunch of LED Christmas lights, and I'm having a lot of trouble getting the raw files to look any good. The attached photos are a zoomed in view of the .cr2 in RawTherapee, and the same section from the .jpg my camera spit out. The center of the light is obviously blown out in both images, but for some reason the .cr2 has a really sharp circle of higher brightness inside each light while the .jpg is way softer and nicer looking. It's most apparent on the blue lights, but it's visible in all the colors except maybe the green.

I've been stuck trying to figure out how to get the raw file closer to the .jpg version for comically long now and I've made no progress, so I figure I'll ask the creatures of the internet; any input is greatly appreciated!

This is such an awesome new feature on I Write Like! I hate rewriting my numbers, and quotes used to be a separate stalling distraction. Not anymore!
Try it here: iwl.me/transform

A screenshot of a text editor application displaying a file named "Demo.txt" on the left, and a "Transform" sidebar on the right. The text on the left shows two versions of the same content: one with numerals and symbols ($\text{I have } 2 \text{ apples and } 10 \text{ bananas. } 10\% \text{ of } \$5.50.$), and the transformed version below it with numbers and symbols spelled out ($\text{I have two apples and ten bananas. Ten percent of five dollars and fifty cents.}$). The "Transform" sidebar lists categories like Case, Formatting, Numeric (including "Spell out numbers" and "Integers to ordinals"), and Lines.
