Star Trekked.
I just watched the new trailer for “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy”. I have included the link so you can watch it, but you don’t have to if you don’t want to.

I have felt out of step with the Star Trek universe since the days of “Enterprise” back in the mid 2000s. I never got into “Star Trek: Discovery”, I found “Lower Decks” enjoyable because it had so many references to classic Trek. I have enjoyed most of the episodes of “Strange New Worlds”, though admittedly I haven’t watched the latest season. Based on the bits I’ve seen of the “Section 31” movie, I’ve steered clear of that experience, and I’m finding “Starfleet Academy” to have a similar vibe.
It looks like something that might be thrown together for The WB or whatever it’s called now.
One of the things I have always enjoyed about “Star Trek” is the feeling of hope that runs through everything, and that when current social issues are tackled, they’re part of the story and handled in an allegoric manner. I don’t need nor want television shows beating me in the face with the problems in our current society. I see plenty of that. And to not wrap these issues into a story in its own universe is just lazy writing.
Maybe I just expect more.
I’m going to pass on this series and embrace my Voyager-era Starfleet Uniform, which hearkens back to the days of good Star Trek.
Live long and prosper.
