Looks like my #Scrypted server has a failing SSD... 🫣
Intenso M.2 1TB, not even a year old. SmartTools doesn't show anything suspicious other than the drive hard-resetting itself during a 10-minute self test (in other words: the drive probably has a crappy SMART implementation too).
Already ordered a new (Kioxia) drive, lets hope this one survives until the new one arrives.
Ok. Haven’t been able to crack this #HomeAssistant nut, so I'm giving up and going to bed.
I have #Scrypted setup as an add-on. I need to start it with an environment variable in order to use a plug-in. I cannot figure out how to do it. I've added the setting to `config.json` in Scrypted's filesystem root, but every time I restart the plugin it gets overwritten with a blank file.
Hey #HomeAssistant people. I run HAOS on an ODROID. I'm running #Scrypted as an add-on, and I want to add an environment variable to it so I can run the Rockchip Essentials version of ffmpeg. I can't figure out how. #FediHelp?
Spent some time with #frigate and #homeassistant for PoE cameras. Ended up with #scrypted and HKSV instead, which was a lot faster to get configured for mobile notifications with thumbnails and video snippets. All of which I’m quite sure HA can do—but not with the time I had allocated.
Okay so I’ve finally got most of my smart home things running off of #HomeAssistant and then linked into HomeKit. This includes all my zwave devices on Hubitat as well as my Hue hub.
After years of running #HomeBridge and #Scrypted on my homelab, I’ve noticed that these devices are far more reliable than any native #HomeKit stuff I have, so we’ll see how this works out.
I finally figured out how to get #Scrypted installed in #HomeAsstant (you have to add Scrypted's custom add-on repository as noted in the Scrypted documentation). Problem is it has an 8-10 second lag, unlike WebRTC (go2rtc) which has a 2-3 second lag. Ugh.
So do I do WebRTC -> Scrypted -> HomeKit?

Thinking about canceling #Nest Aware Plus and going full #Scrypted NVR. $150 vs $40 per year, and way more configurable. This is for 3 Nest Indoor 1st-gen cams and a battery doorbell. Anyone did this? I already got Scrypted NVR running (tried the trial) on a Pi 5 and writing to a Synology via cifs, seems solid.
I’m looking to set up a #frigate or #scrypted system and want a lead on cheap POE cameras.
Amcrest seems pretty good but there also seem to be some compatible stuff on Aliexpress for half the cost.
Anyone have a camera setup going that they like? This is not mission critical so I’m not looking to overspend.

Turns out my #scrypted #homekit integration broke due to this commit https://github.com/koush/scrypted/commit/90a7e447040d257e39052fc4fc062c480e326163 which changed MDNS advertiser from MDNSAdvertiser.AVAHI when there is avahi-daemon running on the Docker host and volume mapped to /var/run/avahi-daemon/socket
Previously it was running a dedicated instance of CIAO inside the container. Would there be issues with having two MDNS servers on the same network host?
@kanec @rob I use Reolink cameras which do try to call home to China for various unnecessary reasons (they have their own cloud streaming service and god knows what else) but I have that blocked at the router. NVR is local, and we use HomeKit Secure Video for streaming (self hosted thanks to #Scrypted, and it’s faster than their own push notifications for the doorbell!), and as Rob says, the interior cams are physically powered off when we’re home.
I don’t like the idea of being watched either. 😉

New setup for my three #Reolink cameras: #RTMP streaming from camera to #MediaMTX, which is streaming to #Synology Surveillance Station over #RTSP, and #HomeAssistant. Motion events generated by the cameras are passed to Home Assistant using #cam2mqtt, and HA takes care of all the recording rules.
Eventually I might drop SSS in favor of #Scrypted #NVR.
