Spring Has Sprung

Not far from my hometown in Northern California there is a road that leads up into surrounding hills/mountains. After a long winter with some very hard rains the local fruit and nut trees start bursting with blossoms in the springtime. I drove out Pleasant Valley Road, turned off onto Mix Canyon Road and a few miles up the road I was greeted with this scene.

Ynnesten att få bo i ett vitsippshav i april!

Förra året orkade sipporna knappt igenom det tjocka, toviga lagret av flera års oslaget ängsgräs, men i sensomras slog vi ängen, räfsade ihop allt gräs och klippte sedan kort med gräsklipparen på hösten. Belöningen kommer nu! Krokusarna avlöstes av vitsippor och snart tar narcisserna vid. Underbart är ordet!

Större delen av vår tomt har aldrig varit kortklippt gräsmatta utan mer hage och äng, så det finns många vackra blommor och till och med en och annan rödlistad art! Så nu är vi supertaggade på att fortsätta hävda våra ängar och se vad som dyker upp!

The balsamroot in my side (north) yard just after dawn. Balsamroot are perennials so they come back every year. This particular patch has been spreading. I think they're blooming early this year. I seem to recall them being in bloom on Mother's Day. I'll check the other two patches in my yard over the weekend.
