I grew up in #HydePark right by #WashingtonPark - by which I mean I was like two blocks away. My entire life there have been profound issues with lack of #AccessToHealthcare on the South and West sides due to histories of #redlining and other facets of #StructuralRacism which is why it is infuriating but not surprising that the South Suburbs are in the same boat.
I'd argue that there are several reasons why Chicago's south suburbs (like the South and West sides generally) lack adequate access to trauma centers, and the two biggest reasons are structural racism and classism. (Olympia Fields and Flossmoor are both upper income and majority Black; many suburbs are working class and majority minoritized people.)

“The difference between being born in the most versus the least sexist state was equivalent to nine years of cognitive aging.
The study is part of a growing body of research that has investigated links between structural sexism and health. Structural sexism, like structural racism, does not refer to personal incidences but to inequality in resources and power that stem from social policies and societal norms. Hate crimes or slurs are individual acts of racism or sexism, whereas unfair lending practices and underrepresentation in government are structural.”
