I need an eReader, and looking for suggestions for what I should get. Currently I have an old kindle paperwhite that I would like to discontinue using because Amazon is uuuuh, not good. Not good at all. But using actual books are too heavy for me and causes my joints to sublaxte while I'm reading. So I need an eReader so im able to still read as much as I want without causing injury to myself.

#TechAdvice Mastodon: I've been having a theory about chargers & #batteries & deep discharge for a while. And while it works 100% of the time, I don't know if my theory of the inner workings is correct:
- Suppose you have a device that you discharged really deep. It turned off and it refuses to do anything and plugging in your charger does not do anything anymore.
- You try different chargers, different cables, warm up the device, etc. Nothing works.
- But(!) if you try to plug in simple/old charger (you can easily spot it by providing <=0.5A current) then suddenly the device will charge.
My theory is:
- Since USB is fairly complicated protocol and there needs to be a "dance" around to how much power the charger should provide, there needs to be a dance around to negotiate this (this is AFAIK a fact).
- But if the device is so deeply discharged that it can't provide this information, then the charger will be like "wut, IDK what you want from me" and will not send anything over the wire.
- Simple/old chargers don't suffer from this because they are too "dumb" to do this dance and/or they just default to the bare minimum and push it over the wire no matter what.
Did I get this completely wrong?
π§ The tech oracle hath spoken: prioritize what's *actually* important! π Because, apparently, smart folks are shockingly bad at deciding what matters most. π But don't worry, just punt those decisions to your manager β after all, why bother using your own brain? π

#TechAdvice Please? The digitizer on my Lenovo Helix Gen1 is finally, after 11 years, coming unglued in what looks like the typical upper right corner. I draw/paint (stylus is a must), and I'm autistic. Leaving it is just not an option. I should:

actually #nas #techadvice follow up question:
how easy is it to turn an old PC into a nas?
my current desktop pc stats are:
- Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700K CPU @ 4.20GHz 4.20 GHz
- 16gb installed RAM
- GeForce GTX 1070
- asus prime z270-p motherboard
if i get a new pc could i just whack some hard drives into my old machine and install #treunas (or a similar system)?
how much knowhow would that take?
#nas #degoogle #techadvice
I want to setup my first NAS system to replace google drive and also function as storage expansion and backup for my desktop.
I'm really not at home with tech so i have some questions:
- what are the most important specs to pay attention to?
- multiple people have recommended #Qnap to me, is there a known best bang for buck model?
- how much RAM and how many hard drive bays are over kill for personal use?
-what is the biggest bottleneck for file transfer speed?
okay I'm done,
how do i migrate away from Google?
what are the best, most user friendly, non techskill requiring alternatives for
- Gmail (is proton mail good?)
- Google drive (is it worth buying a synergy nas? how easy is it to access a nas from different devices? )
- google docs/sheets (does libre office have the same ability to edit a document from multiple devices and sync the edit with the other devices?)
- google search
- Google Maps
- android
