Yesterday I finished reading On Tyranny, Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century by Timothy Snyder, which I discovered via the Fediverse. A list of books from the 9th lesson, Be Kind to Our Language, where he advises to make an effort to disconnect from the Internet and read books.
Novels like Dostoyevsky's The Brothers Karamazov; Kundera's The Unbearable Lightness of Being; Sinclair Lewis' It Can't Happen Here; Philip Roth's The Plot Against America; this one, famous among young people, Rowling's Harry Potter and the Deadly Hallows.
Some political and historical texts: Politics and the English Language by Orwell; The Language of the Third Reich by Victor Klemperer; The Origins of Totalitarianism by Hannah Arendt; The Captive Mind by Czeslaw Milosz; The Power of the Powerless by Václav Havel; Nothing is True and Everything is Possible by Peter Pomerantsev; Ordinary Men by Christopher Browning; The Burden of Responsibility by Tony Judt; The Uses of Adversity by Timothy Garton Ash.
That looks like good advice and a list to research. I started Arendt's.
