Don't even try to fix a #Victron SmartSolar Charge Controller MPPT 100 50:

I broke it when I connected the battery terminals up the wrong way around, and thought I would try and open it up to see if there was a fuse I could change.

There's not just black sealant between the cover and the heat sink, there's also a shitload of blue sealant under the "roof" of the device, which was so strong it took me ages to separate the two parts, and in doing that I managed to rip off some components from the circuit board 🤬

There is an 80A fuse on the circuit board, but it is soldered on very well, so there is no chance of replacing it.

What a waste :(

Finally got around to replacing my small but expensive APC lead-acid based UPSs with one larger LiFePO4 self-built system. Has about 10 hours of capacity and the advantage of being able to take advantage of cheap electricity.
Cells and case from #fogstar, BMS from #JBD, Inverter/charger and battery monitor from #Victron and powered by a #raspberrypi running #venusOS.

Windows 11 mit WinBoat auf einem Macbook Air Late 2015 unter #Linux Mint als Host. Läuft, aber unglaublich träge.
Was tut man nicht alles, um #Victron VE Configure benutzen zu können…

#thuisbatterij helemaal vol vandaag. De komende dagen veel minder zon. Vermoedelijk voor zondag is de batterij wel helemaal leeg door het verwarmen met de #warmtepomp. Zonder warmtepomp voor het normale verbruik zouden we nog wel genoeg hebben. In de afgelopen 4 maand gemiddeld 0,5 kWh per dag verbruikt vanaf het net.

@Starkimarm wie konnte ich den Post nur übersehen.
Als Nerd willst du #victron, ist super flexibel erweiterbar, offene Schnittstellen, und ne Riesencommunity im Netz. Der "Meineenergiewende" Jens auf YouTube ist da eine Superquelle für Infos.

Axo, Akkuseitig bist du da dennoch flexibel anbieterseitig, victron in Sachen Laderegler und Batteriewechselrichter.

@gelbschlumpf @homeassistant das kommt dann mal, wenn ich Zeit und Geduld habe.

Die #homeassistant VM zuhause spricht durch den #Wireshark VPN mit dem #MQTT Server auf der #Raspberry mit #Victron Venus im Wohnwagen.
Und der kommuniziert lokal mit allen Geräten.
Auch mit dem #WomoLIN #Truma Ersatz und der selbst programmierten #LüfterNC.

Wenn ich die zweite HA Instanz habe, kann ich auch die #Shelly Aktoren verbauen. Dann geht im Winter auch die Außenleuchte remote.😊

Yeah… That went well.

On December 14, 2024 – three weeks after I published the last exciting installment in this series of posts – our new Redflow ZCell battery, which replaced the original one which had developed a leak in the electrode stack, itself failed due to a leak in the electrode stack. With Redflow in liquidation there was obviously no way I was getting a warranty replacement this time around. Happily, Aidan Moore from QuantumNRG put me in touch with Jason Litchfield from GrazAg, who had obtained a number of Redflow’s post-liquidation stock of batteries. With the Christmas holidays coming up, the timing wasn’t great, but we were ultimately able to get the failed unit replaced with a new ZBM3.

At this point the obvious question from anyone who’s been following the Redflow saga is probably going to be: why persevere, especially in light of this article from the ABC which speaks of ongoing reliability issues and disturbingly high failure rates for these batteries. That’s a good question, and like many good questions it has a long and complicated answer.
