These are actually really NEV format files, but incorrectly named .r3d in the camera, which massively confuses the official software.

The QuickTime Player, and the entire AVFoundation framework have problems with some h.265 video files.
It can only play the "hvc1" variant, but not "hev1".

Sigh.

So the integrated Movie Converter in 8.9.1 generates the proper h.265 variant for macOS.

Many video cameras write metadata into strange places in the video files, and for 8.9, we have added the ability to read Sony camera information in MP4 video files.

This contains information such as the camera make, lens name, and comments.
