Rock art, Nourlangie region, Kakadu I will post a key and explanation as a comment. #AlphabetChallenge #WeekPForPatterns #acoloradAyPRIL #tan #photography #art #RockPainting #FirstNations #culture #EastCoastKin #PhotographersUnited

A complex group of rock paintings on a sandstone outcrop. The sandstone is sheltered above by an overhang that's not visible in shot. A number of patterned figures are depicted in white and ochre on the rock, and explained in an accompanying key in a separate photo.

Radjah shelducks, dabbling (Radjah radjah, Ngurrungurrudjba, Kakadu) #AlphabetChallenge #WeekPForPatterns Take your pick - the patterns of their plumage, their placement, or their reflection... #photography #birds #nature #wildlife #wetlands #tropical #kakadu #EastCoastKin #PhotographersUnited

Three elegantly plumed shelducks in a line near the billabong bank, in the same pose, bent forward with beak in the shallow water, each reflected in the water. The birds have white heads, necks and chests, nearly black on their backs with dark brown wing-tips and a thin brown "collar".

Fractal fern, Noosa National Park There's something mesmerising about the same architecture repeated at different scales, lovely pattern. #AlphabetChallenge #WeekPForPatterns #photography #plants #ferns #abstract #fractals #EastCoastKin #PhotographersUnited

Looking down on a large horizontal fern leaf. The main rib runs roughly left to right across the middle of the frame, and branching off it at regular staggered intervals are fronds, each of which in turn has frondlets branching off in the same pattern, in turn with individual leaves branching off in the same pattern again. The whole is a bright green.

There's definitely a pattern there, but what is it? Look closer... #AlphabetChallenge #WeekPForPatterns (@hedgehoggrl.bsky.social I think I know where those legs came from) Gallerie dell'Accademia, Venice #photography #architecture #ceiling #cherubs #EastCoastKin #PhotographersUnited

Highly ornate gilt ceiling in the Gallerie dell'Accdemia. Featuring diagonally placed squares, each with a starburst pattern inside.Closeup of the starburst pattern in the ceiling. Each is a cherub's face, with eight stylised wings surrounding it.

Caterpillar pattern (Chelepteryx?) It's hard *not* to find patterns and symmetry in nature #AlphabetChallenge #WeekPForPatterns #photography #macro #insects #EastCoastKin #PhotographersUnited

An extreme closeup of a hairy caterpillar (possibly Chelepteryx spp.). Around its circumference at regular intervals is a repeating pattern of raised bright yellow dots from which sprout thickets of long black and orange spines.

Fractal hexagons Many of you have seen it before, too bad, it's one of my personal favourites. #AlphabetChallenge #WeekPForPatterns #photography #frost #hoar #landscape #ice #LakeTekapo #EastCoastKin #PhotographersUnited

Closeup of thick hoar frost on a hexagonal wire fence (chicken wire), creating a pattern of hexagons on hexagons on hexagons. Seen out-of-focus through the hexagonal pattern is a lake, with white frosted trees on its shoreline and snow-capped mountains behind. Lake Tekapo, New Zealand.

Mature hula-hoops ready for harvesting. These are the roots of the spaghetti tree. Rapid Creek, Darwin #AlphabetChallenge #WeekPForPatterns #photography #nature #mangroves #wetlands #humour #WellMyHumourAnyway #EastCoastKin #PhotgraphersUnited

A confusion and profusion of aerial mangrove roots, all looking like partly buried hula-hoops. That is, constant diameter wood, and curved as parts of a circular arc. Above the roots is the foliage of a mangrove.

This week's #AlphabetChallenge is #WeekPForPatterns and it's another quandary, because a while ago the #BlueSkyArtShow theme was #pattern, and I posted a bunch. Will I 1) not post 2) quote post 3) repost? Hmm... Here are Kelvin-Helmholtz vortices, for #nerds #photography #cloudscape #EastCoastKin

Clouds showing a repeated vortex pattern known as Kelvin-Helmholtz vortices, similar to an Art Nouveau frieze pattern. Nitmiluk, Northern Territory.

Wide angle-view of metal structure and glass ceiling covering the Crainhem metro station in Brussels at blue hour. The perspective chosen by the photographer reveals a kind of robotic blue cat with a yellow mask sitting on its paws and ready to jump ahead.
