Three lengths of steel wire sit on my workbench, each bent into a simple curlicue. They've been placed so that together they form a pleasing shape, and joined together with copper wire wrapped around them. The spaces between the wires have been filled with old beat-up washers and purple beads, all held in place with more copper wire.

Got it all framed out, & I'm messing with the washers. I haven't done much with washers before, so figuring that out is sometimes frustrating, but it's fun, too. It's coming along nicely.

A line of old beat-up washers runs up the left side; some of those have also been joined with copper wire. Other washers are scattered around, along with purple beads and a few jewelry tools.

Noodling around with the layout ... after a LOT of painful wire bending. This stuff is steel, & my hands are BIG MAD about it.

But it's gonna look really awesome when it's done ...

🌸 Chapter Seventeen — Horizons in Stone

Landscape Jasper — a desert scene carved by the earth itself.
I wrapped it in copper and placed a small Tiger Eye bead above it, like a sun watching over the horizon.

It feels less like jewelry and more like a tiny portal — a reminder that the world is carried inside the stone.

Thanks to Elder Scrolls Online, I have recently discovered Bismuth crystals, I'm now as fascinated as I was when I first saw watermelon Tourmaline and then an Ametrine. Find it mildly interesting that wire wrapped pendants of Bismuth are very traditional in style, it strikes me as needing something much more angular or industrial.

Chapter 8 — The Sun That Waits

🌅 Tiger Eye, wrapped in copper and crowned with pearls — a little sun resting on the red rocks of Broome.

People stop me to compliment it all the time. They touch the copper, tilt it to catch the light in the stone, and say “Wow.”
And yet… somehow, it’s still waiting for its person.

Maybe some pieces are patient like that — knowing exactly when and who they’re meant to follow home.

Chapter 7 — The Sea Tried to Claim It

🌊 Golden amber wrapped in copper — a little sun caught in a tidepool.

Getting this shot wasn’t easy. I waded in just far enough for the water to kiss the rock, waiting for the right shimmer of light… and for the waves not to steal my work.
A few times the ocean almost won.

But in the end, we caught it — still warm from the last rays of the day, glowing like it was lit from within.

Chapter 4 — The Long Game

🌀 Some pieces come together quickly, almost impatient to be born.
This one… was not one of them.

I used a wire thinner than I normally dare — every loop, every weave a tiny act of patience. By the time I was done, it felt like I’d poured hours of breath into it.

It now rests on the neck of a friend. She’d been telling me how much she’d love to own one of my pieces — not knowing her boyfriend had already commissioned this for her birthday. I had to nod and smile, keeping the secret safe until the day it found her.

Har sett så mange fine smykker hvor man bruker metalltråd som man vever rundt stener så over noen år nå har jeg hatt lyst å prøve selv men har blitt sittende fast i planleggingsfasen.

I had a vision, of having little wire wrapped clasps for my folk costume projects. As soon as I got home I made some.

These are called maljor in Swedish, and they’re used to lace upp bodices in the folk costume world. I don’t know that wire wrapping is common, mostly it’s pewter or silver casts. But we do have a folkloric tradition of wire work, called luffarslöjd - hobo crafting. With how many different folklore versions that have existed I can’t think this is the strangest there’s ever been. Hell, I even saw someone doing beer can tabs as maljor last week. Creativity, baby!
