In 1924, a french doctor created fake archaeological artefacts, including tablets with an invented script. They were used to claim the appearance of writing in the middle of France during the late paleolithic.

Doing some (imprecise but internally coherent) georeferencing of plans from Tell Chuera. There is a strange lack of a nice and precise general plan for recent excavations at Chuera (which are extremely well documented otherwise), but the plans of the old digs are giving a good compensation.

Extract of commentary on Science.org, about a recent (2023) article on indo-european "homeland" : "The conclusion rendered by the Heggarty et al. (2023), that Indo-European languages represent a hybrid of Near Eastern and Steppe ancestry, is based on statistical sorcery and phonological fantasy, methodologies that belong to the 19th century. It is simply baffling that the work should appear in a prestigious peer-reviewed science journal of the new millennium. Methodologically, the paper suffers from the misguided belief that the shortcomings of lexico-statistics are curable. We simply do not have enough data to make it work. "
