Col. Chad W. Caldwell, commander of the #ArmyCorps’ Sacramento district, wrote that the #water that poured out of Lake Kaweah & Success Lake “could not be delivered to Southern California directly.” To do so would have required several steps of coordination w/ #California state & federal agencies to transport the water to a rarely used connection point, & it quickly became clear that was impossible in such little time, acc/to the memo.

Standing Rock replied, pointing out the flaws in approach and demanding redress.

For now, it's up to us to lend a hand. We must flood the #ArmyCorps with a single, unified message:

This illegal pipeline's operations must be terminated and the Army Corps must start over with a legitimate environmental review. In the midst of a #ClimateEmergency, let's defend sacred ground and safeguard #UnciMaka (our Grandmother Earth). This may be our last, best chance to end DAPL once and for all.

the agency must take a new approach that “goes beyond ‘doing no harm,’ to focus on putting the disadvantaged #communities at the front and center.” That followed legislation passed by #Congress in late 2020 known as the Water Resources Development Act, which ordered the #ArmyCorps to take a more #holistic view of #floodrisk, including #sealevelrise and rain deluges, while better engaging with coastal residents most exposed to the dangers.

Inside battle to build $1.2 billion# fish barricade
#ArmyCorps of Engineers aims to block invasive #carp from #GreatLakes. But fish, formerly called #AsianCarp, could still find a way in. Over the past 50-some years, invasive carp, a stunningly destructive #invasivespecies, have infested almost every waterway in the Midwest, from South Dakota to beyond the Mississippi Delta, and have even reached West Virginia. We need to block them at the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal.
