A pair of particularly tall and large trees stand with light bark that forms long lines along the trunks. Their branches stick out like little stubs around the great girth of the trees. Other tall trees stand nearby, looking line thin spindles next to these two giants. These are California coastal redwoods.

One substantial tree stands on the left while three or four normally large trees form a line into the visible (in a forest) distance. A path winds past them and smaller trees. The ground is covered in large ferns and a California bay laurel stretches upward, but not all that high, beside the giant. The giant and large trees are redwoods and the rest are leafy specimens.

Ripples spread out over flat water from the photographer into the distance. The water seems deep. It is part of a creek that winds away between gravel sides lines with redwood trees.

Signs indicate path, of sorts, to connect Tall Trees Trail with Emerald Ridge Trail utilizing fords and gravel bars of Redwood Creek. There can be deep moments while following it in Redwood National Park, California.

The light is turning red with the sunset to color the tan grasses of late summer prairie, with a path mown down the middle, to a more colorful hue. On the far side of the grass is a stand of trees like green triangles. These redwoods are also a bit red in the light. Shadows from redwoods behind the photographer project onto them by the low sun. Between is a barn, the historic Dolason barn, looking halfway solid still.

I made it out to the old growth redwoods and late in the day I could even feel those big trees getting ever bigger! And there was even a rhododendron remaining along the Rhododendron Trail this late in the season.

The start of the Rhododendron Trail, which comes after a bit of time on the Cathedral Trees Trail.

A trail passes curves from the bottom left toward the middle around a small tree, vanishing behind a small hill. To the left are huge ferns and normally large trees. To the right is a ground cover of redwood sorrel, like giant clovers, with a sign planted in the middle. The sign is headed Rhododendron Trail with destinations Cal Barrel Road 2.5mi, South Fork Trail 3.5 mi.

A clump of white stalks stand generally straight with a curve near the top. The top has a bulge of a flower and the stalk is lined with short leaves. Each is white with a bit of blue near the base. Sometimes a bit of pink seems to show through from the inside. Otherwise the white is stark. Around it, the forest grows with salal leaves and redwood sorrel. A blanket of redwood needles and bits of fern fronds covers the ground.

Tall trees, some regularly large, some redwood big, which is a whole lot bigger, line a small water course. The water is running from the bottom of the photo away to the distance below the middle. It is crossed with many logs. One of those logs appears to be not quite dead yet and many small branches have started growing upward as is the redwood way. A blue sky is somewhat visible, but lightened by the extreme light changes through the forest.

Big Tree, which is a mostly paved and flat 100 foot or so walk from the parking lot. It is usually crowded.

A fence on the far side of the platform (and the platform itself) protects the tree's delicate roots from the crowds that visit. A break in those crowds managed to leave this picture people free. An enormous #OldGrowth #cedar #tree has been identified in #VancouverIsland ’s #ClayoquotSound possibly dating back over a millennium. The western #RedCedar reaches a towering height of 46 metres and stands five metres wide at its base.

It is currently the sixth largest redcedar in #Canada - according to the #BCBigTreeRegistry 🌲
