Ben Goldfarb’s book, “Crossings” has a lot of info about roadkill, and other damage that roads inflict upon wildlife, so when I saw this black snake today, heading straight for a road, I got off my bike and kept a car from running over it.

I think we've figured out why we didn't have baby cardinals in our rhododendron this year - after enjoyng watching them hatch, grow, and fledge last year.

This fine specimen was exploring the rhododendron as we ate lunch! Eventually it got bored and wandered off to look for other bird nests to plunder...
