What is prothrombin time (PTT)?

Prothrombin time is taken on a plasma sample to determine its coagulation (exogenously).

Prothrombin time is measured for the following purposes:

determining the hemorrhagic tendency associated with deficiency of coagulation factors type II, V, VII or X, monitoring anticoagulant treatment using antivitamins K, determining liver disorders associated with vitamin K deficiency.

COVID-19 increased cumulative incidence of myocardial infarction and stroke to a greater extent among hospitalized cases with non-O blood types than blood type O, leading to a significant gene-pathogen exposure interaction (P interaction=0.01). No differences in rate of thrombotic events was observed as a function of ABO bloodtype among all population controls.
