@ngn #bleedingedge doesn't mean #newesttechnology, as you could be running #xorg built directly form main branch, instead of semi recent release of any #wayland desktop. About the #rhel, isnt their source code still avaiable if you are #redhat customer? From what I remember you will stop being theri customer if you release #rhel patches, but isnt the point of using #rhel the access to all tools that are build around its ecosystem and maintained by #redhat, and not just the packages. Anyway, besides that, whatever #licence #rhel had and now has, even assuming all #redhat did was took #fedora #linux applied some patches, and tried to sell it exclusively, is that really wrong? I mean, this process has to be at least somehwat difficult, for companies to consider paying #redhat to do that. Back to the topic of #fedora being testing ground, I guess some #distro has to be the one that pushes the most into #newesttechnology, even if sometimes it may not be in ready state, or its acceptable only for some subset of its users. Even when its not fun, it is part of all #communityprojects, when eventually someone will rise issues that their niche usecase is no longer supported, or the newly added feature sucks for majority of users, or the improvement that took focus of all developers wont be used by anything as other things have yet to addapt to it.

Still working on fleshing out Forum topics on the five forums I built. So far no one has joined but that's fine at the moment.

Once I am happy with it I can find mods and another admin. Maybe. But I also want to build on my content Sites as well. Eventually someone will get ActivityPub working.

It makes keeping Community for comments and such seperate from the sites so I don't have to let unneeded users on their.

Keeping it nice and working.

So, I got all the forums I wanted to build setup. Eventually I will probably need to shell out for a more expensive server, but for now this will have to do.

I just can't afford any more right now. And I still want to build some pages so I can afford more resources.

Working on Secondary setups now. Cloud storage and things of that nature.

I think I got federated connections properly configured though.

Working on the Communities today after I get my workout in.

Server power is gonna cost. I am gonna need to figure out how to make some money here at some point.

Even if I take donations, I want to make a bit more than what break even would be if only just to eventually increase server power for reliability.

This doesn't take into account my desire to start making some kind of content, but Google isn't pushing people towards sites.

Anyone have thoughts on this?

Building forums this week.

Using NodeBB, and should have 4, maybe 5 ready to go by end of the week.

It being on ActivityPub means the forums will be open for any to follow.

So I didn't quiet succeed in my goals of getting the forums and the #PixelFed instance up. I just kept getting distracted by shit.

Got to try to dispose of 4 containers of Prestone DexCool orange coolant. The vans old owner was going to use it to change the radiator fluid out but we made sure there was none in there and used standard Universal Green.

Now we need to properly dispose of the stuff we got.

Tail pipe is still pumping put white smoke. Dad thinks it's just condensation from the system. And we do leave it shut down a lot. But I feel it would have reduced by now after being started a few days in a row if that was the case.

Could be stale gas, the tank hasn't been refilled since we got this thing several months ago. This is the option I prefer. Once I get the Tires changed and maybe the Brakes serviced I can drive around until the tank is empty then run a tank of Premium with Additive through and maybe clean it out. And Oil change will give me more information as well.

The worst case scenario, and the one I am afraid is the actual problem, is an internal coolant leak. This would mean the engine itself needs repair and could run into the thousands of Dollars. I don't mind it if it gets the van on the road and I need a full diagnostic anyways, but this isn't the sort of thing I want to deal with.

Once the PixelFed instance in online on Wanderers-Waypoint.com and I have confirmed it's properly federated I will probably move these updates there. But I have to ensure Federation works as that domain used to be a Mastodon instance and I self-destructed it.

I am working on rebuilding one of my communities. Originally it was a small fanfiction thing but as I have another fan related domain I decided to make this one a Dark Fiction site and community.

Thing is that Dark Fiction can get... Dark.

So while I am working on the ideas and which software to use for community, I need to figure out what is allowed for rules and discussion.

Obviously moderation would need to be far more lax than say Mastodon.art or anything from Europe. You can't start banning everyone who talks about dark topics if they follow that topic to its darker logical conclusion.

Obviously Harrassment, KYS statements, Actual Racism, and a few other things should be banned. But discussion of how a racists bigoted character might address something shouldn't be.

I live in the US so 1st Amendment is pretty open ended.

Figured I would put this out to discuss cause it is such a disconnect between what most people would generally expect from an instance due to the subject matter.

So, I want to rebuild one of my story telling communities, Darkscribes. It was originally a rather cringe fanfiction page when I started it. Now I think it be best to rebuild it hut here's the rub.

It have to be a dark fiction community. Noir, Scifi and fantasy, and discussing dark topics. Things that frankly another community would moderate out.

But Moderation would be very light touch on this one. It have to be, so that some of the darker topics could be discussed. At least I think it would need to be.

Concidering the possible content discussed there I figured I would start a discussion in general. How would you try and balance the situation I am planning here? Both so that content can be discussed but to protect users from Harrassment.

Let me know what you think.

Sifting the wheat from the chaff in our technological and social mess is an important challenge. This is why the #OMN approach of leveraging work across communities and utilising multi-tag aggregation is an elegant and powerful solution. It would be useful to look at this from a more #mainstreaming prospective.

Aggregated work across communities of subjects, the first step in the #OMN path involves gathering and organising work created by various communities around specific subjects or interests. Subject-centric hubs, decentralised indexing, curating content based on subjects (e.g., #ClimateChange, #TechEthics). These hubs wouldnโ€™t rely on centralised algorithms, but instead draw from a network of community-curated sources. Community moderation by trusted communities who moderate and curate content within their subject interested. This ensures quality and reduces noise while resisting gatekeeping tendencies of centralised control.
Reputation by contribution by encourage subject-focused communities to reward contributions, promoting collaboration and surfacing valuable work naturally.

Dynamic and live updates, newsfeeds, can be feed by aggregating real-time updates from communities working on the same subjects using open protocols like ActivityPub. This would provide a live pulse of discussions, innovations, and trends across diverse groups and subjects.

Multi-tag aggregation, the next step is to create a system that enables the mash-up of multiple tags to filter and organise the aggregated content dynamically. Advanced multi-tagging allow people to filter aggregated work using combinations of tags, e.g., #ClimateChange + #IndigenousRights + #CommunityProjects.

Visualisation of tag relationships, tag webs, implement visual tools that map relationships between tags, communities, and subjects. People can explore how different concepts connect and navigate the network intuitively. Trend overview, within tag intersections to help people identify emerging areas of focus and overlooked intersections.

Tools for aggregation and mashing, to make this work practically, we need powerful, accessible tools that build on the #OMN ethos. Open aggregators, open-source aggregators that collect data, metadata, and content flows from diverse platforms and formats, such as blogs, Fediverse instances, wikis, and video platforms that can be made compatible with the #openweb, we simply ignore the #dotcons which are to #closedweb to be worth plugging in to these flows, they will wither in the self-sustaining destruction of their own #techshit, sadly taking a part of our communities with them, we do not have the focus to rescue everyone as we push this shift.

Community buy-In and participation, To build the #OMN path in an effective and relevant direction, it must gain support and participation from the communities that create it. This needs: Simple, intuitive interfaces for tagging, curating, and contributing to subject hubs. Guides and incentives to help non-technical people engage with the paths. Decentralised decision-making, with democratic governance paths like the #OGB. Education and outreach, with educational campaigns to teach people how to use multi-tag aggregation and curated subject hubs that work.

Guarding against pitfalls, while the #OMN approach is promising, itโ€™s essential to mitigate potential risks. We need to keep vigilance on balancing noise and redundancy. Centralisation risks, by keeping to decentralised and open paths to avoid reliance on any single platform, database, or organisation. Bias in curation is kept in check by the networks being inherently leaky, people will see other points of view โ€“ we do not subscribe to the #blocking inherent in #fashernista safety culture.

What would this look like, the end goal: Collaborative Knowledge Commons. The aim of the #OMN path is to create a living, breathing commons of human knowledge and action. By aggregating community work and enabling meaningful mash-ups through multi-tag aggregation, we create a powerful tool to cut through the noise, enabling better collaboration between communities, richer understanding of complex, intersectional issues, stronger foundations for the native #openweb.

Thinking of rebuilding Wanderers Waypoint as a PixelFed instance.

I like the idea, but I kinda think it be nice with loops as well. But I am not entirely sure how this should work.

Wouldn't mind some input on this.

Found out about #Calibre Web and honestly, that might be interesting if I was one to share my library, and more importantly access to modify Metadata and things of that nature.

It be interesting if you could set it up and just have a community library up.

On the left of the picture is an old oil lamp with a white balloon shade. Next to this is work I created at the workshops. It's a felted piece with a needlefelted landscape, depicting a turbulent river of blues and white foam, a textured area of hedgerow and stone wall with a mixture of blues, greys, greens, orange, brown and white. The background sky depicts the Northern Lights with lime greens, blues, pinks, purples and orange, all layered. Against the sky is an old mossy tree with old growths on it. All of the piece is made from wool and felted in various degrees.
