I want to use a slightly older router to create a wifi access point on the 2nd floor of my house since coverage up there is insufficient for zoom meetings.

What kind of ethernet cable should I get to run from the primary router to the secondary router and what vendors do you trust to give a good product at a fair price?

The primary is a linksys bought a couple years ago, and the 2nd is older linksys with ddwrt.

Trying to test mobile 4G failover for networking, then I remember that the reason it doesn't work is that there's no mobile signal where I'm testing it, and in that location, we typically use Wifi calling, and it just gives the user the illusion of actual mobile network coverage, so relying on a certain mobile network for failover in case the broadband goes down is going to be fruitless. Might have to go and grab a SIM from another network.

There's a law missing. One that prohibits software from circumventing DHCP provided DNS without the user explicitly agreeing to it and offering a setting to disable the circumvention. DNS, DoT, DoH, doesn't matter.

Damn. Looks like the #Cisco #Catalyst3750 I got from work might be DOA. The lights keep flashing (the top 3 are flashing amber, the rest green) and even power cycling or holding the mode button does nothing.I can't console into it and I don't hear fans running either, which IIRC, the 2960 I had definitley made some noise when it was running. Any #NetworkingNerds have any troubleshooting ideas?

Just to give some history - I think it may have been sitting on a shelf for a few years and it *should* have been wiped, since it was going to be e-wasted since we moved our DC and didn't have the space for unneccessary things. So I don't know if its just dead from sitting on a shelf for years.

I'm not looking to replace anything unless its cheap since this was a project and I may not have kept it in the long run anyways. Just want to see if I can confirm its a hardware issue.

Im having a problem with a proxy server im using at the library i work at. I’m using a proxy through inetcpl.cpl to only allow access to the library homepage and catalog on one specifix computer.

I used inercpl.cpl to nake a proxy serv and whitelist the library and catalog domains, but the search doesnt fully work.

Like if i search from the library homepage, then the search works, but if i search from the catalog results like in going to do a second search, then it doesnt work for some reason. Id have to go back to the home page or search from advanced to get it working.

Anyone familiar with this issue or how to address it? I tried looking through the website html and whitelisting the relevant domains in inetcpl.cpl, but still the issue persists.

I went into the exam expecting to fail.

I made a social post in late July saying I would be taking an accelerated Network+ course. I was nervous after listening to the first Zoom meeting about how much time it would take and after looking at the course outline. I had one to two weeks to cover one of the five CompTIA Network+ objectives. That’s a lot of material for those who are not familiar with it.

With a full-time work schedule along a house of loving but noisy boys - a four-year-old and an infant - it was proving to be difficult to find the time to sit down and focus and not be sleep deprived. I fell behind. And what I did practice and quiz myself on, I was struggling with some concepts.

Then came prepping for and observing Hurricane Idalia as it got too close to home for comfort. Then the entire household got sick in the middle of September. When I am sick, my brain is like “nope.” In between the insanity that was life, I pressed on as much as I could. Honestly, I was never able to catch up to studying Objective 5, which covers network troubleshooting.

I took two different practice exams from different vendors. I failed both. The night before the exam, I took a practice test, saw the score, and went to bed early depressed.

I took the exam the next morning at a testing center. I saw stunned when I saw the score and “Congratulations!” To pass the exam, you need to get 80% of the questions and exercises correctly. I earned an 82.2%.

Maybe I know more about networking than I thought. Maybe getting a full-nights sleep helped to clear the head a bit. Maybe I just underestimated myself. Regardless, I did it!

I’ll be taking a break for 2-3 months, but the Security+ will come next.

P.S. Thank you to my wife who always believed I would pass it.
