Three pairs of horseshoe crabs copulating in shallow water. The crabs are brown, with rounded shells vaguely reminiscent of a military helmet but tapering at the back end. The telson, the long pointed spike at the rear end of the crab, is visible on the male crabs, which are mounting the females from behind. The shells of all the animals are partly covered with small barnacles. The picture is taken from above the water, and the animals are fully submerged. There are small ripples on the surface of the water, and the bottom is a sandy yellow.
