Indo-Pacific Sergeant (Abudefduf vaigiensis) – This bold and striking damselfish is a familiar sight in tropical reefs across the Indo-Pacific. Recognizable by its five black vertical bars on a silvery-white body with a yellowish tinge on the upper back, it closely resembles the Atlantic Sergeant Major (A. saxatilis). Often found in shallow lagoons and reef flats, these fish are highly territorial and known for their aggressive defense of nesting sites. They feed on algae, plankton, and small invertebrates, sometimes forming large, fast-moving schools. Their adaptability has even allowed them to spread to non-native regions, making them a fascinating species to observe!

These are fun fish, they’re active and NOT shy!

Species #001! Thanks, and I hope you’ll follow along!

And another set of diving photos from the same weekend: this time fishes.

Featuring: A Mediterranean moray looking curiously out of its hole, a huge dusky grouper trying to hide between rocks, a group of greater amberjack swimming in the open water and group of a few dozen damselfish.

A photo of a Mediterranean moray curiously looking out of its hole. Its face, left eye and nose are clearly visible.

The hole is surrounded by stones that are covered in colorful algae.A photo of a huge dusky grouper trying to hide between rocks. Its eye can be seen. Above it, a few red cardinal fishes are swimming.

A few seconds later it was gone, disappearing somewhere between the gaps of the rocks.

The rocks are covered with mermaid's cups, peacock tails, various other algae and black sponges.A photo of a group of six greater amberjack swimming in the open water, behind them nothing but the blue sea.A photo of a group of dozens of black damselfish swimming above the sea floor. Below them the sea floor with rocks, sand and various sponges can be seen.

And some more pictures from our dive with @slomo , this time with different fishes playing around.

Featuring: A brown meagre trying to hide, a striped seabream eating surrounded by two-banded seabreams, a swarm of small fishes swimming downwards, and two painted combers kissing surrounded by several black damselfish and a dreamfish.

A brown meagre (Sciaena umbra), looking blue-purple in this picture, is headed towards a hole on the rocks, in front of an orange sponge.A striped seabream (Lithognathus mormyrus) is eating something from the sand, making a little cloud around its mouth. It is surrounded by two-banded seabreams (Diplodus vulgaris) and a single rainbow wrasse (Coris julis).A swarm of unidentified small fish (possibly sardines), swimming downwards next to a rock, with the same slope as the rock. Two painted combers (Serranus scriba) that look like they are kissing on the mouth - they were in fact fighting. They are surrounded by black damselfish (Chromis chromis) and a single dreamfish (Sarpa salpa), in front of a scenery with sand, small rocks, and yellow sponges.
