'Throw Thursday 20th November 2025.

3D-AFR, Douglas DC-8, African International, crossing in front of the rooftop terraces on The Queens Building at London Heathrow, 30th October 1994.
This taxiway was actually a rarely-used runway - I don't recall ever seeing it used for landings, but Runway 23 wasn't fully decommisioned until 2005!

Side view of a 4 engined jet airliner that has been converted to a freighter, taxiing from right to left along a wide, almost black taxiway.
The plane is mostly white, with a blue stripe running along the body and sweeping up into the tail, and red, lower-case "African International" titles on the upper fuselage above the wings.
The blue registration 3D-AFR is on the lower rear fuselage, under the tail, which itself has a stylised red globe overlaid on the diagonal blue stripe.
An strip of green grass runs halfway across the frame from the left in the foreground, while a grey terminal building with a dark blue and grey jet airliner hooked up to a yellow airbridge comes halfway across the background from the right, and a red hangar with a sandy brown roof and a brace of BizJets and a bizprop in front on the left.
Grey sky fills the rest of the image.

Side view of a 4 engined jet airliner moving from right to left at high speed, with flaps hanging down behind the wings, and the rear of the engine pods under the wings slid back, revealing the thrust reversers, suggesting this plane is decelerating after landing.
The plane is mostly white, with a pair of black stripes running along the upper half of the fuselage, , the Top stripe overlaid with red "Air India Cargo" titles.
The white tail has a thick, two-tone grey letter "s", outlined in black.
The grey wall and roof of a building fills most of the foreground, with grass lining the runway.
More grass lines taxiways in the background, leading up to a grey concrete wall in the distance.
The rear fuselage and tail of a grey and dark blue jet airliner is parked facing to the left in the top left corner, with hazy sky filling the rest of the frame.

"In the early 1960s, United Air Lines brought new jet airliners into service providing unprecedented speed, comfort, and efficiency. With the Douglas DC-8 and the Boeing 720, coast-to-coast travel time was less than six hours. The interiors of the new jets were far more spacious and quiet than any of the propeller-driven airliners. With more interior space, greater attention was paid to inflight amenities such as elaborate, multi-course meal service, inflight movies, and individualized air conditioning controls. Have you ever flown on a DC-8? See "Flying the Main Line: A History of United Air Lines", on display, post-security, in Terminal 3. http://bit.ly/TheMainLine Image: United Air Lines Douglas DC-8 model aircraft, c. 1960. A Swiss Franc anomaly meant Swiss International Airlines needed to source aircraft boneyards and bring back some oldies like this Douglas DC-8.

Unfortunately on short notice the inflight entertainment only offers Heidi VHSs
