And I remind the reader that while #DontAskDontTell was federal law, and therefore required the courts or the Congress to act, the restrictions on trans service were only Department of Defense medical policies in the sole purview of the Executive Branch that the #CommanderInChief could have rescinded with a telephone call and a letter to the #SecDef without consulting anyone else, but he didn't. #Obama refused to do so, even with repeated calls for him to act.

Case in point: Biden's recent pardon of #LGBT people who were court-martialed and dishonorably discharged from the military.

#DontAskDontTell was overturned by the federal courts 13 years ago, in 2011. It took #Obama until 2016 to allow trans people to serve. #Biden has been #POTUS for 3.5 years.

Why did it take this long for the pardons? Obama could have acted immediately. Biden should have done on Day 1 of his term, but he didn't.

#Biden is ending #PrideMonth with a series of major actions on #GayRights, including a sweeping pardon for thousands of former US soldiers convicted of violating #DontAskDontTell era bans. This action by the Biden administration, which has been the most pro #LGBTQ rights presidency in US history, is another reminder of just how much queer people may potentially lose over the decades to come if Republicans win in november, especially if they are able to carry out their stated goal of dissolving American democracy.
