Title: Fractal Forest
Category: Underwater
Place: 1st
Nationality: Australian
Picture details: The inside of a cauliflower soft coral in Lembeh Strait, Indonesia.

Caption: Named for its characteristic cauliflower-like appearance, this coral has numerous small, rounded, bump-like polyps that give it a puffy texture. This unique perspective was made possible by the Nauticam EMWL (Extended Macro Wide Lens), an underwater version of the probe or insect eye lens. Due to its long length, small diameter, close focus, and wide field of view, this lens allows for perspectives impossible with conventional lenses. I decided to experiment with the EMWL on the soft coral to capture a different view of a common life form. I carefully threaded the end of the EMWL through the branches of the soft coral so as not to damage them, creating an image looking from the inside out.

#DPReview has a new article about a jaw-dropppingly great photo by Dan Zafra, in New Zealand, of the milky way, the comet SWAN, and aurora, *and* red sprites. It's insane!

The foreground looks to be the Ōmarama clay cliffs.

#DPReview has a terrific article by professional nature photographer Erez Marom on the primates of Vietnam. The photos are outstanding, and include the red-shanked douc, which is doing an incredible impression of an AI-generated monkey. As the article says, "Yes, this is a real animal, not a muppet."

"Blackwater dive photography is arguably one of the most challenging and relatively new frontiers in the world of underwater macro photography”

This new article in #DPReview profiles Ryo Minemizu, a night time underwater macro photographer (yes, I just learned that’s a thing). The photos are extraordinary, as is the gear and effort taken.

Check out these extraordinary photos taken inside musical instruments by photographer Charles Brooks. #dpreview details how Charles does this, stitching together hundreds to thousands of different photos.

“Brooks had been living in New Zealand and photographing musicians when COVID-19 happened, which quickly brought things to a halt. During that time, though, he noticed that since musicians couldn't play, they were sending off their instruments for repair. As a result, workshops were filled with fantastic instruments, sparking an idea.”

That post by @cabel that I just reposted is crazy interesting. that DAK catalog and those that preceded it are essentially an enthusiast / hobby website, like #DPReview, or #CoffeeGeek or #Cocktailian, but long before the internet existed. This DAK guy and others before him ran an "enthusiast website" and sold stuff thru it, via a printed magazine catalog.

So cool.

Found some strange spot in viewfinder... Didn't noticed it before, as of yesterday. I really hope that there's nothing to worry about.

I made a video with it and if anyone knows what it is feel free to reply:
