1voct SID single voice test circuit. CV 1 to pitch and CV 2 to PWM. Messing about with different things in prep for making a 3 voice eurorack module. With SIDs so rare in the wild now it'll probably be reliant on SidKick or Swinsid to exist in any number in the wild.

And there it is. I probably spent more time figuring out how the jack nuts and LEDs go in, than actually soldering parts. Seems someone forgot to update their build documentation for this specific model.. Breeze to build anyway 🥰

Best bits in the kit - that tool for the jack nuts and the pcb snap-off bits. Latter are great for many #Diy builds, really any use wherever you need both reasonably thin and rigid base material.

Completed Mutes eurorack module on a tabletop. Jack nut tool and two bits of circuit board snap-off section. Tip of metal tweezers to the top-right corner, ballpoint pen to top-left.

AY3-8910 tries to do SID voice. Syncing the internal modulator to the bass note periods for pretend pwm. Not bad at all for the humble AY without resorting to the intense cpu control of the volume registers, as might be found in much demoscene stuff.

More AY3 / YM2149 sound chip action. AY300 and YM300, each as a three voice stack, with some SID drums as the driver. Lots of lovely trills when it gets going and some buff octaving C64 style bass line action. The kind of tune that'd definitely have had the telly cranked in my school daze. It's awesome👾🕹📺🙂

Finished. AY300 and YM300 chip tune oscillators. Chip tune oscillators running the AY3-8910 and the YM2149. Both more or less the same. The YM isn't as dirty as the AY and not quite as gnarly. Both get 10/10 for retroness and in sounding like ZX spectrum and Atari ST daze. Especialy with the modulator accessible to pull off 'sid voice' kinds of tricks that can be found in the demoscene.

Resonance fine tuning. Throw some stuff together, hit cell 1 with fast envelope CV to rez and cut to get the zap, a second envelope hits it off beat to get the almost sidechain compressor like buzzy wowwwwww. Sidguts does the C64 arp stuff through some slow cutoff sweeping on cell 4. All very 'Reznor - social network' - alike.

a bit like and kinds of things

And what would a filter array in the making be without doing this with it. I'll meet you on the dark side of the moon 🌒

Testing a prototype filter array build. One filter is better than none. Four filters are better than one.Tweaking and deciding what's nice and what's not. Ended up making a fine impression of mesh or depeche mode.

Amiga tracker fidelity circuit bent drums running off of a real tracker. Nice old school sound reminding me of Akai S1000s and octamed type things. Like 90s era nine inch nails or something. Circuit bent machine shoe horned into a eurorack module. All the cronch without the annoying toy machine form factor. Housed in an upcycled C64c case.

Another short demo showing off a few new features. The display now has cursors to indicate which wave position you are on when modifying the wave via the module (instead of having to edit the patch file) and now has a fun cursor that shows you where the step sequencer is. Additionally all for step sequencer modes (forward, backward, ping-pong, and reverse) are working!

https://youtu.be/qmQnor9rPKc

To show off the sequencer, I ran the module's output through my Doepfer Wasp filter although this does stomp on the modulation of the wave frames a bit. Still it sounds pretty neat! In practice, when using this with our band stuff (@victimcache ) we added a slew to the step sequencer to round the cutoff changes a bit.

I think at this point this thing is nearly ready to use! I'd like to have a decent default patch set and have pondered adding more patch slots (there's currently only 16) but I think after that, since patches are just stored in a textfile on the SD card, having a way to generate patches on the module (like you can in LSDJ) is something I still very much want to do, but as mentioned previously, I will likely work on that externally via something like Python until I have all that working and then port that over to the module.

Reorganizing the codebase (basically switching over to C++) really helped clean up the code in ways that should make it much easier to add new features though yeah I think it's close to minimum viable at this point.

The photo doesn't really give it justice but I've been hard at work improving the firmware for my GB Wave Osc module. I've spent the last few days completely reorganizing the code to make it easier to add new features and improve the general usage of the module. One such new feature is adding direction options for the step sequencer as can be seen by the 'F" (forward). I plan on having forward, reverse, ping-pong, and random. The default will be stored within each patch.
