To celebrate this, I give you the story of how John T Way (the "father of soil science") built a mercury light so brilliant that he sailed with it across the Solent, in the darkness, hoping to catch the eye of the Prince Albert. After completely drying the spider silk sample on the slide, I forgot to use alcohol to loosen off unbound stain and went straight to using a small drop of aqueous mountant to diffuse the unbound stain into the mountant. Here's a 10x obj / 12.5x cam image 460nm epi #fluorescence of a coiled artefact, which is interestingly yellow compared to the green #spider silk / spidroins. #science #biology #microscopy
