Moin moin, this is #nakeddiefriday speaking! Only two remain until the end of 2025!

Today's image is of one Soviet design, ะš161ะŸะ 2 fabbed at Ukrainian PO Oktyabr, date code showing 1989. This decodes the 8421 code (aka BCD) to drive a segment display. It is made in metal-gate pMOS, and is powered with -27V! None of that 5V rubbish.

An abstract looking colourful image is projected onto a white wall. Coloured fairy lightsare draped along the top of the wall. At the bottom of the view is a wooden shelf with, from left to right, two boxes of mince pies, and a microscope with a green felt octopus on top. The octopus has a cheery smile and is wearing a Christmas hat.

#ThinSectionThursday It's all quartz in today's rock, an Upper Cretaceous pure quartz-sandstone from the Lochaline sand mine. This particular sample is quite well-cemented together by syntaxial quartz overgrowths on the older round quartz grains. You can see the ghostly round grain boundaries of the original sedimentary grains. New quartz has then grown with the same crystal orientation around each grain, turning the loose sand into sandstone. Field of view 2mm across. ๐Ÿคฉ

Almost all the image is made of a clear, transparent mineral, with faint ghostly outlines of rounded grains visible within it. The image consists of black, grey cream and white polygonal grains. Each of these contains a faint ghostly outline of a smaller, rounded grain visible within it. Crustmas day 6! ๐Ÿฆ

I saw some posts with these ostracods (Strandesia sp.(?)) yesterday, so I wanted to share this one. Found in the greenhouses of the botanical gardens in Bonn. If anyone can help ID, that would be amazing! :D

A greenish pill-shaped ostracod with a big thorn-shaped ala. The rest of the animal can roughly be made out through the carapace. The margin of the carapace has small perforations as well as a few hairs.
