But apparently the leaves contain hydrogen #cyanide gas?! Wikipedia cites a source that says "the cyanide is easily sidestepped by chopping up the plant, which releases most of the gas in a few minutes. Soaking and cooking it also reduces the cyanide to negligible levels".

If you’re a mushroom forager, can you confirm for me that these are safe to eat? (Don’t worry. I’m checking other sources too, but figured there would be foraging folks on Mastodon who could help.)

I received this book in the mail Friday and, between hikes in the woods and through fields over the weekend, I have almost made it through the introductory information. I love Sam’s writing style! I have his three earlier books and highly recommend them to all #foragers and people who enjoy #foraging . The information in the new field guide is specific to North America, east of the Rocky Mountains.

There has been quite an accumulation of evidence over the past 15 years that the transition from foraging to agriculture was gradual in many regions. This new paper shows that in Italy, there was a corresponding slow shift in the oral microbiome. Cool, another paper to work into my course next term.
