🍇🌿🧙‍♀️🫖
In Appalachian folklore, boneset tea was a fever remedy when “witch’s breath” (illness) swept the mountains. 🤒⛰️🌳🌡️

💮 was brewed to “sweat out” sickness, and elderberries offered magical protection and healing from colds. Herbs hung above doorways guarded families from plague.

#ladybird #ladybug sunning itself on what I think is a #yarrow in our garden...

It's been a good year for ladybirds, and insects in general, this year.

A close up of what I believe is yarrow with a ladybird (ladybug) on it...

White Yarrow is a perennial herb with upright stems, feathery divided leaves, and flat clusters of small white flowers; it plays an important ecological role as a nectar and pollen source for insects, improves soil stability with its deep roots, and has long been valued in medicine for its wound-healing, anti-inflammatory, and digestive-supporting properties.
Wild thyme is a low-growing, creeping aromatic plant with tiny oval leaves and purple-pink flower clusters; it provides excellent nectar for bees and butterflies, stabilizes soil in dry meadows and rocky areas, and is traditionally used as both a culinary and medicinal herb, especially for soothing coughs, aiding digestion, and harnessing its antimicrobial effects.

At Finland at the moment, visiting 4 telescope sites in 4 days and 2 artist coffees. When I travel to telescope sites, I always try to meet up with a local artist who are working on art/science projects because A. I love (and collect) art and B. Their insights in the culture, history really help me with writing, and sharing ideas over coffee is invaluable. Yesterday I met up with Elle Rose Nish in Helsinki - she works on art-sci ptojects around clouds and graduating this December with a research master. On this picture, she's collecting yarrow to make tea, a magical herb :) .

Blegh, it's August already... I don't like it. I don't like what's coming next. So my camera has spent more time in the drawer recently. But I did photograph yarrows yesterday :) They are everywhere, and I realized I often ignore them because of that and focus on prettier flowers instead. Well, it's yarrow's time to shine now!

Good Morning, Yarrow - At least, I think it's Yarrow... I liked the combination of plant textures here.
