The 100% fur yarn is much fuzzier, and based on g per yd, much less dense too, which is interesting! The Oni 1 batch was drum carded and spun semi worsted. Both are 3-ply.

Oni/merino blend #3 came out at 22 wpi when wrapped around the frame for washing and setting. That seems pretty much in "fingering" territory to me.

This yarn doesn't have much squish or stretch, so I'm not sure what it would be best suited for. Weaving? I could knit a pair of socks to see how hard-wearing and insulating the fur/wool combo is.

I still need to knit a swatch from this to see how it behaves on the needles, so this experiment isn't quite done, but for now the 🧵 is!

The 50:50 mastiff:merino yarn has been removed from the frame and coiled into a skein. It sits in front of a cake of 100% mastiff yarn. The skein is a more even, darker brown, compared to the slightly lighter and more variable fur cake, and the cake is also visually much fuzzier: ends of the fur escaping the twist to create a halo.

The 50:50 mastiff:merino yarn has been removed from the washing frame and lies out straight on a coffee table. Behind it is a cake of slightly lighter 100% Tibetan mastiff yarn for comparison. The cake is much fuzzier, with fur ends sticking out.

The 50:50 mastiff:merino yarn has now been wound into a cake as well, and sits next to the 100% mastiff yarn for comparison. They both have tags identifying them as Oni 1.2 and Oni 3.0. The 100% wool is 100 g and 95 yd, while the blend at 57 g, nearly half the mass, is 137.6 yd, quite a bit longer.

@Paws2Spindle My one venture into dog yarn - making fingerless gloves - was definitely too warm, but that's because I don't live in a snowy climate! I re-did them and made fingerless gloves for my brother-in-law, who lives in a colder state, and he seems to like them.

Finally got ALL the huskies, past and present, out for a walk in the winter! That's the husky fur scarf I finished last spring, made with fur from Rio, Wizard, Gypsy, Zeena and Tonttu. Zeena (R) and Tonttu (L) are the only ones still around to generate fiber for future projects. (I have plenty left from the others in bins waiting to be spun!) It's nice that I can bring the whole pack with me now on snowy adventures!

The scarf was warm, but not overly so. Some people say husky/dog yarn is too warm, but maybe that's just for around-the-house wear.

It was slightly prickly around the neck. There are occasional guard hairs in the yarn: during prep/spinning I removed some as I go, but I wasn't not super diligent. I think it might be worth spinning up some more carefully (and tediously) processed undercoat for comparison, specifically for future cowls & collars.

It is a fractal ply / barber pole combination. I spun the blue and brown top as is and split the green and brown top and spun end over end and then spun them together.
505 yds and 232 g, I'm really happy with the twist on this one!

I started these on the plane to Singapore and finished them soon after returning, giving me a new pair of socks in nearly record time of a little over a week. I'm quite pleased with how they turned out.

Socked feet, resting heel-to-heel on a carpeted floor. The socks have a texture knitted into them but the colour gradation is the eye-catching feature, as it changes through an earthy rainbow.

A friend is just getting into crochet and I am offering her some of my early handspun to play with.

I have a lot of yarn from when I was learning to spin. It's not the greatest (most of it is overspun and quite dense). Some of it is thicker yarn than I prefer to knit with. But you can't learn to spin without making "bad" yarn.

The problem is that now it's just taking up space and I don't know what to do with it. There are a lot of memories plied into each skein (that was the fibre I bought at the Maker Faire; this was the first time I did a combo spin; that was my first "big" spinning project, etc.) but. But. Now what.
