I’m looking to buy a keycap puller to remove the ones from my IBM Model M for a deep cleaning. Can I buy any other one, or are there specific models you would recommend? I don’t want to damage that keyboard accidentaly.

fine tuning a bolt modded #ibmmodelm, actually the rubber membrane does not want the bolt to be too tight otherwise keystrokes registering can have problem. This can happen easily to the arrow keys because of the huge gap between other keys on keyboard.

Either Thursday or Friday evening, I will drop my completely revamped #IBM Enhanced #Keyboard (standard #ModelM #IBMModelM) wiki page! Been working on this on-and-off since January, aiming to further make it the definitive resource for them!

Included will be a better history section, better description/illustration of "generations", more detail about possible controller/logic cards, possible prototypes, and of course more variants! Waiting on feedback and finding time to finish proofreading.

Snatched some old IBM model M keyboard.

After some cleaning it works flawlessly, even thought it's manufactured in 1991.

Main difference compared to mechanical keyboards, that it needs much higher force to actuate switch. But you get used in few days.

Also this keyboard is not for people who want silent typing experience. It's one of the loudest keyboards I have ever used. You can even hear springs buckling on actuation and release.

Even lent doggo approves it.

La #datafrogsf2000 q me compré en verano x 20€ ha sido un fail x un unico motivo: los botones son mas mecánicos q los de mi teclado con switches #outemu azules... Q en un teclado ese feeling #ibmmodelm mola xo en una consola ni de coña. 😒
Una pena xq la cruceta y el analógico bien, la pantalla muy bien y el rendimiento mas q aceptable x el precio (se queda corta xa 32bits el resto feten).

I usually type on my Novatouch because it's such a nice keyboard. The nice and rounded tactility with the inherent soft bottom out from Topre, inherent N-key rollover from the capacitive design; the nice and compact TKL format; plus I have the option to play around with custom keycaps (and other mods).

On the other hand, I always have the urge to bring out my IBM Model M sometimes. The iconic look of the keyboard, the VERY iconic sound of buckling springs, the utility of the numpad, the nice and sharp tactility, and this keyboard being the one that got me interested in mechanical keyboards.

The Model M being the one probably sounds weird considering that I'm a zoomer that didn't exist in the Model M's heyday, but I remember seeing a "definitive" (not really in hindsight) video about the Model M and how cool it was. It got me interested in keyboards, which then led to me eventually getting one in 2019. Even though I eventually switched to TKLs for the sake of desk space, I still have a soft spot for this keyboard and its sound. :btr_bocchi_pray:
