#TIL that there is a native #iOS app for #Karakeep. COOL! :nkoCool:
It took more than 24 hours for Karakeep on my Raspberry Pi to finish all the pending background jobs resulting from the import of about 9,000 items from Pocket.
Now comes the real-life check if it's suitable as a replacement of Pocket.
On the search for a self-hosted alternative of Pocket I came across https://karakeep.app/. I just installed it through Docker Compose on my Raspberry Pi and imported almost 9000 URLs from Pocket.
Let's see if it can serves me needs as Pocket did. However, first the background jobs need to finish.
Funny that on fedi the Pocket alternatives mentioned and discussed are mostly (all?) open source and self-hostable, e.g. #Karakeep, #Linkding, #LinkWarden (and of course #Wallabag and #Readeck). This article doesn't mention them at all https://www.makeuseof.com/best-pocket-alternatives-save-bookmarks/
I installed a self-hosted copy of Karakeep this morning based on the Tailscale guy's recommendation, and I've been playing with it. It seems like a reasonable way to manage bookmarks -- until now I've just been using Firefox's bookmarks, which get unwieldy.
I haven't enabled the "AI" tagging/summarization. I don't want to pay for OpenAI, and I can't run much of an LLM on the Raspberry Pi.
The #Karakeep experiment has been going okay the past few weeks. There are still a few things that are holding me from switching from Raindrop but given the way things are progressing I can see it not taking long.
Over the last week I've been on a bit of a journey and ended up installing 3 different #selfhosted #bookmarking services (#wallabag #karakeep and #readeck) since the demise of #pocket is upon us.
I wrote up my experiences on my #blog:
https://cyb.org.uk/2025/06/05/self-hosted-bookmarking.html
Alternativa a Pocket auto-hospedable: Karakeep

#pocket #karakeep
Mozilla is shutting down Pocket, which I have used from long before it was a Mozilla thing.
I'm moving to self-hosted Karakeep (https://karakeep.app/). It's not perfect, and I don't like being forced to deploy docker, but it's here and works, and slots easily into the herd of my other self hosted services. It also has integrations for the browsers I use.
In today’s #selfhosting adventure, I’m going to try #karakeep because I think it’s going to help me keep notes and things centralized between my devices! I never used pocket, but I guess it’s like pocket, but in my house.
@GavinCampbell #KaraKeep has been working well for me. It can be self hosted and there are mobile apps that allow sharing directly from phones. https://karakeep.app/
@Argyle13@xarxa.cloud mi aportación para esa lista es #Karakeep, para alojar en tu servidor, muy sencillo de instalar con docker y realmente parecido a raindrop.io.
Además cuenta con apps para iOS y Android.

¡Saludos!
With Pocket going away, I now have the perfect justification to start working on deploying Karakeep.
What's the best alternative to #Pocket?
I'm seeing #readeck, #wallabag, #raindropio, #instapaper, #karakeep, #floccus, #memex, #obsidian, and #curiooo.
I need it to do a good job reading articles and be available for web and android. I'd love it to be FOSS and let me support them monthly. I dream of it having great integration with my fedi account.
I see that @readeck, @instapaper, @wallabag and @obsidian are here. Anybody else?
@davidvasandani @readeck they're both fantastic looking projects and under active development
my choice was largely based on my use case, #karakeep seems more focused on archiving and #readeck on a "read it later" experience, I think the single feature that compelled me the most was readeck's e-book export
best of luck wherever you end up!
