Between #Matlab and #Python, which one would you recommend to learn, for a student who wants to learn programming (from scratch) to do data analysis? And why?
I am conflicted because I think Matlab is maybe slightly more straightforward to learn, but Python should be more useful in the long term (I know both and need to decide which one to teach my student).
I think answers might differ depending on whether you're in academia or not so I'm also asking about your occupation in the poll:

From what I’ve read, this reminds me a bit of #MatLab/#Simulink, #Stringify (RIP), & #PowerAutomate, but seemingly more powerful & #OpenSource, user-friendly, w/ some #encryption. It has my attention, but I’d love to hear others’ experiences.

@maxplanckgesellschaft has multiple thousand #Matlab licenses. Yet the internal #rseng mailing list is barely active.
We tried some tricks to connect the scientific software developers, but we were not successful. We did run an internal good workshop, we have the topic in the intranet.
Yet we failed to reach the supporting staff which is around longer.
Same with #RDM folks within MPG.
I stopped worrying. I do acupuncture now. Here and there a needle and hopefully the blockades disappear.
What is a good plotting tool for making 3D surface graphs? My goal is to explain how if you have a curve
y = A*x^3 + B*exp(sin(3x))
you can graph x vs y but also x vs y vs A to show how varying the parameter shifts the family of curves so you can find a best fit by comparing x and y from data to x and y in your model.
I am pretty sure excel will refuse outright, I have #python I have #mathematica I have #matlab . I am fine coding, just not fidding with 1000 things to make a legible graph.
