my friend whose cat I watched was party to me going down the rabbit hole in the chat group researching "industrial" #microSD cards (since I had 2 consumer ones die, and my housemate had 1 die, all in the past week) and is gifting me a 256GB card - this makes me feel better about canceling my cloud storage, as there'll be an additional redundant copy of my important files on a highly portable medium which I may be able to easily pocket during an earthquake or similar.
I'd really like a geo-redundant copy, but one thing at a time. although, it does bring up the subject of self-hosting backup endpoints for friends, which is something that's been discussed (and sometimes implemented) in my friend group multiple times over the years...
