There is a misunderstanding about the Ojibwe word for Hello: “Boozhoo”.

Many people incorrectly think that “Boozhoo” is a corruption of the French word “Bonjour”.

This is not the case. It predates any contact.

It refers to the central character in all the oldest Ojibwe stories who is named Nanaboozhoo (or “Waynaboozhoo”).
