Meine lieben Lebensformen,
heute verabschiede ich mich von Fuerteventura mit einem Mönchssittich. Sie sind hier nicht heimisch und wurden von den Menschen hierher verschleppt.

Ich finde sie einen tollen Farbtupfer auf der Insel.

Morgen wird ein langer Tag mit über 12 Stunden Reisezeit. Und leider wurde bei der Umbuchung mein veganes Essen nicht mitgebucht.

Tiere sind Freunde und kein Essen oder eine Plage.
Bleibt gesund, glücklich und verliebt. 
Der schlimmste Seelenschmerz ist das Fernweh.

My dear life forms,
Today I'm saying goodbye to Fuerteventura with a monk parakeet. They are not native to the island and were brought here by humans.

I think they are a great splash of colour on the island.

Tomorrow will be a long day with over 12 hours travelling time. And unfortunately my vegan meal was not included in the rebooking.

Animals are friends, not food or a nuisance.
Stay healthy, happy and in love. 
The most terrible pain in the soul is wanderlust.

#Gelbi seems to recover well from his injury. Yesterday he was picking up some crumbs from my plate, when I left him out of sight for a minute. He instantly went into #Graui's bathtub and started splashing. The vet said he's not allowed to bathe until today. Let's hope yesterday evening counts. You can't blame him for wanting to get the remaining blood from the feathers.

#Gelbi seems to be pretty happy with his "new" beak: I heard him loudly picking up seeds from his metal bowl for quite some time last evening.

#Gelbi and I did a planned trip to the vet today. His beak was growing again and he couldn't get rid of it himself. The vet said it might be caused by the structure behind the beak being softer as a result of previous trauma, so he would not be able to consume/grind it. Then the ver did a bit of clipping before he got out the angle grinder (?) to bring it in shape again. Bird and driver are home and well meanwhile.

After #Graui throwing up and shaking the whole morning, we managed to get a doctor's appointment and went there - all of us, including #Gelbi. Graui has a bacterial crop infection and will receive antibiotics in his water for the next days. Afterwards there even was still time for me to visit #grandma, who suddenly didn't have a free space in that far away nursing home anymore today. Now she's on the waiting list for a closer one. #BirdsOfMastodon #MonkParakeet

Big white bird cage on the backseat of our car fixated with a safety belt. Graui sits on stick in it, while Gelbi sits on top (was fed up with his transport cage for the road back) and cleans himself (while the car is moving). Next to the white cage one can see a part of a wooden box with a grid at one side - Gelbi's transport cage. In the window one can see part of the Ravenna gorge railway bridge in Höllental ("hell valley")

Now that #grandma is a bit better, our #MonkParakeet Graui started throwing up yesterday. Looks like we'll go to the doctor this evening, in case we manage to catch this poor shy thing.
